Chapter 433
Sure enough, Griffin didn’t sense a single zombie presence.
Not until he stopped at the restroom door on this side.
Griffin peered inside. The grin he usually wore vanished, his face turning grim.
“Captain Gorgeous, you might wanna come take a look.”
Hearing that, Hayley told Thomas to stay put at the stairwell. She brought Leonard and the young guy with her toward Griffin.
The farther she walked along the dust-covered corridor, the tighter Hayley’s brow knitted together.
It really was exactly like the first floor.
The only difference was the direction they were moving.
Then, Hayley saw something that made her question reality itself.
Inside the third-floor restroom sink sat a bloated human head. Water dripped steadily over it, and its hollow eye
sockets stared straight at them.
“A ghost!” The young guy went white as a sheet and staggered backward.
Leonard slammed a hand onto his shoulder, his expression righteous and firm. “There are no ghosts in this world.

“No, no, no!”
The young guy looked like he was losing his mind, his whole body shaking in terror.
“There are ghosts!
“There were rumors about this building being haunted even before! An old woman living on the first floor lost her son in a mining accident. She kept waiting for him every day. I heard it a long time ago. My neighbor ran into her after work once. She kept asking him where her son was. He said he didn’t know, and she trapped him walking in circles on the stairwell!
“They didn’t find him until the next day, right outside her apartment. He’d been circling there the whole time!
“It’s haunted!”
Right then, a scream rang out behind them.
“Aaaah!”
It was Thomas.
Hayley spun around at the sound and saw Thomas, who had been guarding the stairwell, sprawled on the ground. His head banged against the steps as someone dragged him by the ankles, pulling him upward.
Hayley didn’t hesitate. She used her teleportation gift and reached the third-floor stair landing within a few
seconds.
But when she got there, Thomas was gone.
All that remained was a drag mark leading upward.
And that mark didn’t stop at the next landing.
Just like Raymond’s group earlier, Thomas had vanished suddenly, swallowed by some invisible boundary.
At that instant, alarm bells exploded in Hayley’s head. She whipped around toward the third-floor corridor.
The dim light there seemed to collapse into complete darkness.
She felt the red cord around her wrist tighten violently, so tight that it felt like it might cut into her skin.
Hayley clenched her hand hard around the cord and yanked with all her strength. At last, the cord loosened, and a man burst out of the darkness.
It was Griffin.
“Captain Gorgeous!”
“Where’s Leonard? Where’s the kid?”
