Chapter 445
Chapter 445
“Run! Move, move, move!”
Levi scooped up the last child lagging behind and herded the residents ahead of him like panicked ducks.
The support team Hayley had sent was already inside the first defensive line. They opened a gate and waved everyone through.
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
“Raarh!”
Behind him, the fastest one was a bloated zombie. Every step it took shook the ground. Its layers of fat flappe wildly from side to side as it ran.
A massive wound split its abdomen open, starting near the stomach and slashing diagonally across its belly button. Its organs and intestines were long gone, but it was so fat that the loose flesh folded back over the cavi hiding it most of the time.
Only when it ran did the flapping rolls expose the bloody mess underneath
“Raarh, raarh!”
………..
Levi had no time to think about anything else. He ran with everything he had. When someone fell, he hauled the up and shoved them forward again.
Right ahead of them stood the newly built steel wall.
A hundred and sixty feet.
Ninety feet.
Sixty feet.
Thirty feet.
Fifteen feet.
“Raarh!”
The bloated zombie hurled its massive body forward, leaping off the ground toward the fleeing people.
Boom!
A thunderous crash rang out
The fat zombie slammed into the steel gate like an oversized tomato
Splat!
A huge smear of rotten red flesh stuck to the metal door.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Wave after wave of charging zombies smashed into the steel gate behind it.
Levi, still holding the child and helping his people forward, felt the wall shudder behind them. His heart jur
into his throat.
But no matter how many zombies poured in, the steel wall stretching nearly six miles remained unmoved.
Bang, bang, bang!
Bang, bang, bang!
Bang, bang!
Above the wall, the Haylight Base support team raised their rifles and opened fire on the horde below.
Outside the wall, zombies kept coming nonstop, all of them blocked by the towering barrier.
They snarled and climbed over one another, stepping on their companions’ bodies as they tried to scale the wa
Each time they reached up to six or seven feet, a burst of gunfire sent them flying back down.
When they piled up again, trampling over corpses and climbing higher.
Shing!
Shing!
Shing!
A seam suddenly opened in the steel wall.
A long blade shot out from inside, sweeping through the dense zombie mass like a scythe through tall grass, slicing them cleanly in half.
After an hour and a half of nonstop defense, the ground outside the wall was carpeted with zombie bodies. The combat team opened the gate and went out to collect crystal cores one by one.
Watching this, a deep sense of safety and emotion welled up in Levi’s chest.
