The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 452

Chapter 452

Liam usually wore either a military uniform or combat gear. He almost never wore anything else.

This was the first time Hayley had ever seen him in a suit.

The tailored black suit fit him perfectly, crisp and sharp. His long legs, almost four feet, looked even straight and longer in the suit pants. A small gear-shaped pin was clipped to the pocket of the fine twill jacket.

Without his usual hard-edged combat gear, Liam looked completely different. For the first time, he gave off gentle, refined air.

Like a quiet nobleman who loved books and carried himself with calm grace.

Hayley’s eyes lit up.

“Nice outfit.”

“Really?”

Liam glanced down at himself, and a hint of shy embarrassment crossed his handsome face.

“It looks good,” Hayley said as she stood up and walked over with the packages. “These are for your grandfathe

“That’s a lot.”

“He likes snacks, doesn’t he? Take them.”

Liam’s smile deepened as he accepted the two boxes of cookies.

“Let’s go.”

“Okay.”

Hayley followed him downstairs.

An electric scooter was parked at the entrance.

Haylight Base ran primarily on electricity, supplied by Hayley’s nuclear plant.

Gas-powered cars and armored vehicles were only used during missions. Fuel was a limited resource.

They didn’t have oil fields, so every drop counted.

In daily life, people either rode bicycles or electric scooters.

Hayley didn’t allow private cars for city commuting.

So Liam had come on an electric scooter as well.

“Just one scooter?”

Liam carried the bags, all straight laced and no nonsense, already having her whole plan figured out.

“Yeah. You sit in the back I’ll drive ”

“Forget it I’ll take you ”

Hayley swung onto the seat, grabbed the handlebars, and looked at him

“Get on.”

Liam paused.

He then hooked the two boxes of cookies and the box of Hearthfall cake onto the handlebars, then walked over the narrow back seat.

Staring at the tiny rear seat, he seriously considered what posture he should use.

Hayley sounded the horn and said, “Come on, hurry up. Get on.’

After a moment of inner debate, Liam chose the most proper option. He sat sideways like he was on a small sto legs pressed together, back straight.

He wanted to sit more casually, but he was wearing a suit today, and the pants simply wouldn’t allow it.

Luckily, years in the military meant he could sit like this without losing any dignity.

Then, another problem hit him.

Where were his hands supposed to go?

Normally, you would hold the driver’s waist or wrap your arms around them.

That was standard when riding a scooter.

“You on yet?” Hayley glanced back, impatient. “Hurry up.”

After a long internal struggle, Liam finally reached forward and pinched the very edge of Hayley’s jacket. 11

Just the corner.
