The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 496

Chapter 496

You’re not back up and running yet?Hayley asked bluntly.

Professor Stone is still recovering,Nathaniel replied. All his experiments are on hold.

Hayley was holding the dogsleashes, and her eyes lit up immediately when she heard that. How’s he doing?!

He’s been resting for a long time. He should be close to fully recovered.

The moment Hayley heard that, she said, Then I need to see him.

Nathaniel froze for a second, clearly caught off guard.

Take me there,Hayley said. Now.

He might not really want to see you,Nathaniel said carefully.

Are you taking me or not? If not, I’m heading back,Hayley said, already turning around again.

Nathaniel hurried to stop her. I’ll take you.

Level Four, the private recovery wing.

Constant had just finished the last sip of a nutrient tonic. Color had visibly returned to his face.

Professor Stone, take a few more days to rest, the base doctor said. Don’t think about research yet. Start some light rehab exercises. You should recover soon.

With the medical staff supporting him, Constant carefully got out of bed. His feet touched the floor. The staff slowly loosened their grip, letting him adjust to standing again.

After being bedridden for so long, Constant brightened at the solid feeling beneath his feet. A longlost grin finally returned to his face.

He was getting better. He was finally getting better!

Then, he heard a voice he knew far too well.

Hey, old man. Miss me?

Constant stiffened.

His eyes went wide.

Bang!

The recovery room door was kicked open.

Hayley charged in, dragging a whole pack of dogs behind her.

Woof, woof, woof!

Woof, woof, woof!

Woof, woof, woof!

The moment the dozen muscular war dogs rushed in, the pressure in the room spiked.

But what really crushed Constant was the person holding their leashes.

+15 Bonus

That familiar figure.

You must be happy to see me,Hayley said cheerfully.

Constant’s face twitched.

Ugh!

He threw up a mouthful of blood. The legs he had just managed to steady gave out, and he collapsed to the floor..

Professor Stone!

Professor Stone!

Woof, woof, woof!

Woof, woof, woof!

Woof, woof, woof!

Ten minutes later

Hayley walked out of the recovery room with the dogs, visibly disappointed.

Seriously, she sighed. Why did he get so worked up just from seeing me? At his age, you’d think he’d have better control over his emotions. He really doesn’t take care of himself. It’s kinda disappointing.
