The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 548

Chapter 548

Under Samuel’s fire, Liam turned red all the way to the tips of his ears. He straightened his back and forced the

words out.

Holly belongs to our whole league. If anything, she can take someone in. She can’t marry out.

By that logic,Samuel replied mildly, I’ll just have that Nathaniel kid marry in.

No way!Liam was about to explode. How was his grandpa always siding with outsiders? Anyone who wants to marry Holly has to get my approval first.

And why’s that?

Becausebecause I’mLiam struggled for a second, then blurted it out with full confidence, I’m Holly’s brother!1

Hayley laughed.

I think you’ve got a point,she said lightly.

She stood up and waved at the two of them. I’ve got something to handle. We’ll argue later.

With that, Hayley walked out of Samuel’s villa, calm and unbothered, every inch the boss she was.

Once she was gone, Samuel looked at Liam with equal parts disgust and disappointment. Honestly. How did I end up with such a blockheaded grandson?

I’m the one who should be asking you something, Grandpa,Liam said seriously. Who were you even speaking up for just now? How could you keep pushing Holly toward outsiders?

Samuel snorted. And what exactly were you saying earlier? Brother? Approval? Is that how those words are supposed to be used?

Liam thought about it carefully, then lifted his head. Well, Holly agreed.

Samuel fell silent.

Liam went on, Grandpa, don’t interfere in Holly’s personal matters anymore. She’s not just an individual. She’s the soul of Haylight League. None of us can afford to lose her.

Samuel rubbed his temples and sighed. Get out of here. You’re completely hopeless.

Liam froze.

Samuel watched his only precious grandson leave, then let out one long sigh after another.

He knew it. If he waited for Liam to bring Hayley into the Caldwells, it would never happen in this lifetime.

The kid had everything going for him except one thing. He was completely clueless about romance. Hayley was that outstanding, that radiant, and he still expected her to make the first move.

Samuel scoffed at his useless grandson. Good thing he’d already started working on Hayley himself.

That thought brought Ruby to mind.

He picked up the phone.

Ruby, you busy lately?

Not too bad,Ruby replied. One of my projects just hit a breakthrough. I’m actually heading to see Holly now.

Then I won’t keep you. Go do your thing.

Alright. I’ll come visit once I wrap things up,Ruby said cheerfully.

Samuel smiled even wider. Sounds good. I’ll be waiting.

He hung up, warmth settling in his chest.
