The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 550

Chapter 550

As soon as Hayley finished speaking, she took off running.

Ruby stared after Hayley, panicked, and rushed out to tell Hayley to bring more people and be careful. In her rush, a burst of flame suddenly flared up in her palm.

Ruby froze.

She stared at the fire dancing in her hand.

What was this?

She had gifts now, too?

She stood there for a few seconds, then tried again. Another flame bloomed to life.

It was real.

Her heart slammed in her chest. She turned toward Hayley’s retreating figure and shouted at the top of her lungs, Holly! I have abilities now!

Hayley waved back without slowing down. That’s amazing, Aunt Ruby!

Ruby was so happy that she almost cried.

She had awakened abilities. She was no longer just an ordinary person. Now, she could help Holly even more.

The thought made her grin from ear to ear.

It was the third year of the apocalypse, early February.

The eastern climate had clearly begun to warm up. It was nothing like the brutal blizzards of the last two years, when everyone had been freezing nonstop.

Hayley knew that once this year passed, the weather would keep improving.

Of course, the zombies would keep getting stronger, too.

Zombie evolution was nearing its final phase. Once spring arrived, every zombie would start at level 1.

That meant hardened skin across the board. Most would be speed or strengthenhanced. Elementbased Gifted zombies would start appearing in large numbers.

In her previous life, those years had been pure hell.

Three straight years of brutal climate made recovery impossible. Production collapsed, and survival was miserable. At the same time, fully evolved zombie waves wiped out bases one after another.

But this time was different.

They had already rewritten fate.

Aecraton was under their control. Brookville and Crestford were shielded by continuous city walls that stopped the endless zombie tides. 1

Humanity had clawed out a small pocket of breathing room inside zombie territory, and that pocket was growing stronger by the day.

As humans grew stronger, zombies began to lose their edge.

Hayley remembered several regions where highlevel zombies should have emerged, but those areas had already been cleared by her people. The conditions needed to birth elite zombies were cut off early.

If she wanted higherlevel zombies now, she had to go farther out.

A massive zombie grinder rolled out from the extended wall. The enormous steel shovel plowed through zombie packs, carving a straight red road through the field.

Modified loaders scooped up crystal cores as they went.

Hayley hummed to herself in the cab, foot on the accelerator, enjoying the steady stream of kill notifications ticking up in her head.
