Chapter 562
“The water that zombie releases is corrosive, “Marvin said. “If it touches your skin and you don’t rinse it off immediately with clean water, it’ll burn right through and infect you. If you’ve got an open cut, it goes straight into your bloodstream. You’ll mutate in under a minute.”
He didn’t sugarcoat it.
“And its body’s hardened like steel. Regular blades won’t do much.”
His eyes dropped to the knife in Hayley’s hands. The implication was clear; that alone wouldn’t be enough.
“Is that all?” she asked.
He hesitated, then nodded. “At night, it patrols the classroom buildings floor by floor.”
“Any mental–variant gifts?” Hayley asked.
“Mental… What?” Marvin frowned. He looked genuinely confused.
Hayley wasn’t sure if he even knew what that was. “Alright. That’s fine.”
She had gotten what she needed.
It was still early. She and Griffin settled down on the rooftop to wait.
At first, Marvin kept a close eye on them. Only after he was sure they weren’t making any sudden moves did he relax a little.
He turned to the students behind him.
“Get some rest.”
They stayed on their side of the roof, a clear, invisible line separating them from Hayley’s group.
The rope system remained within arm’s reach. If anything went wrong, they could bail in seconds.
In this world, you didn’t just trust strangers.
“Stay sharp. Don’t wander off,” Marvin reminded them.
“Got it.”
A few minutes later, something drifted through the air. The rich and savory aroma hit them all at once
Roast chicken with gravy.
Barbecue ribs glazed in sauce.
Seared beef patties.
And the unmistakable scent of eggs fried in hot oil

Marvin and the students just stared.
No way! A spread like that?
Meat, vegetables, eggs.
And… Ice–cold cola.
Griffin popped the tab. Fizz snapped through the air, and he handed the can to Hayley.
The students nearly drooled. They hadn’t tasted carbonation in years. The memory alone made their mouths water.
“I want some, too,” one muttered.
“I’m starving.”
“Mr. Ortega…”
They all looked at him hopefully.
Marvin cleared his throat, pulling himself together. “We’ll eat in a minute.”
“What are we having?”
