Chapter 591

Hayley had hit the jackpot.

Ten draws, and three rare abilities.

Another extremely hard-to-obtain mental-type gift had appeared.

The prediction ability alone made her grin like she had just robbed the system blind.

[Prediction-type Gift: detects major danger or opportunity within a 500-yard radius 3 seconds before it happens.

She had seen this ability before.

Back then, Scott had used something like it once and nearly ruined her entire setup.

And now, she had the same kind of skill.

Three seconds of foresight within five hundred yards. That was basically a combat sixth sense. Anyone trying to ambush her would have a much harder time succeeding now.

Sure, it had limits. The danger had to happen within range, but 500 yards was more than enough to save her life.

Another hidden card was added to her hand.

After reviewing the prediction-type gift, she turned to the final reward, the one Summer had practically charged in to bless.

[Pulse-type Gift: disables all abilities of Gifted individuals and Gifted zombies within 50 yards. Duration depends on mental energy.]

Hayley’s eyes lit up.

This one was terrifying! A true battlefield weapon. Activate it, and every Gifted enemy or zombie nearby would instantly lose their powers.

Which meant the battlefield would become hers completely. She could eliminate enemies however she wanted.

The dogs barked excitedly around her.

“Woof! Woof!”

“Woof!”

Hayley looked at her lucky pack. With odds this low, she had pulled three rare abilities in one session. Two were absolute trump cards, and the mental-type gift was among the most practical abilities possible.

Today was a massive win!

“Good job, my babies.”

She hugged each dog and rewarded them with fresh raw meat from her inventory.

Then, she began absorbing the abilities.

The seven standard gifts stayed untouched for now.

The three rare abilities? She kept every single one for herself.

Yes, she could distribute abilities to her subordinates, and the system would replicate them to her anyway.

But that rule only applied to abilities she already possessed or didn’t truly need.

Ultra-rare abilities were different.

Those were hers.

Even if she could duplicate them and revoke them when needed, she wouldn’t hand them out.

Hayley only ever gave away things she didn’t want, extras that were almost useless to her.

Anything rare or hard-won, something she had struggled to obtain herself, was never something she would share with others.

It was the same with supplies and food. Only when she had more than enough, when her own reserves were already abundant, would she distribute some to other bases and let them benefit along with her.

When it came to truly scarce resources, there was no way she would be foolish enough to give them away first.

Hayley had to have it before anyone else could. If she didn’t have it yet, then no one was getting anything from her.

After absorbing the mental gift, prediction, and pulse gifts, seven standard abilities remained.

Three strength enhancements, three speed enhancements, and one fire-element gift.

Even among standard rewards, strength and speed clearly had the highest drop rate. Elemental abilities were rarer.

Pulling fire again actually meant her luck had been solid.

Still, all of them were useful.

Hayley called Leonard and Thomas into the shelter. She handed each of them a set of speed and strength- enhancement gifts, in the form of pills.

She didn’t explain. Just told them to take them.

Both men, already deeply loyal, swallowed them without hesitation.

She simply told them to focus on training over the next few days.

They nodded and left.

Three abilities remained: one speed, one strength, and the fire-element gift.

Hayley thought it over and stored them away.

Griffin?

He wasn’t getting one.

The guy already had absurd survival advantages. Zombies ignored him, and he escaped danger faster than anyone alive. He didn’t need extra upgrades. 1

She decided to keep the remaining abilities until someone truly suitable appeared.

That night, she slept well.

Early the next morning, Ruby delivered good news. After working nonstop through the night, she had achieved a

breakthrough on the anti-zombie spray.

The upgraded formula could now repel a level 4 zombie for three seconds.

Regular zombies were blocked for three minutes.

Level 1 and 2 zombies could be held back for 30 seconds. Level 3 zombies lasted about ten seconds.

And Level 4, three seconds.

On a battlefield, that was game-changing.

Hayley immediately ordered Ruby to scale production and deploy the spray widely along the frontline defenses

She could feel it: the balance between humanity and the undead was shifting again.

Right now, humans were still on the defensive.

Yet, a counterattack wasn’t far away anymore.

With breakthroughs in research, Hayley threw herself even harder into base development.

Adding one more building, one more resident, one more improvement suddenly felt incredibly satisfying.

She went to find Alex, demanding ten more development reports so they could map future expansion.

That was when Liam came looking for her.

“Holly… Nathaniel is trying to contact you again.
