The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 649

Chapter 649

When Jasmine heard that, she snapped.

She rushed at Warren like she had lost her mind, pounding her fists against him.

“You killed him! You did this!” she screamed. “It’s all your fault! You’re the one who got everyone killed!”

A flash of anger crossed Warren’s eyes, and he shoved her away hard.

Then he looked down at the hand still clinging to the railing.

Without hesitation, he lifted his foot and kicked it.

Warren was a strength-enhanced Gifted. After three brutal kicks, Kemp’s hand was already mangled and soaked in blood.

Below them, zombies were climbing over each other like a ladder, using Kemp’s body as a foothold.

Kemp’s grip weakened. Then, finally, his fingers slipped, and he fell. He dropped straight down into the swarm, dragging a mass of zombies with him.

“Osbert!”

Jasmine collapsed to her knees on the fifth-floor landing, screaming down into the darkness.

Hayley raised an eyebrow when she heard the name.

Osbert.

Wasn’t that the name on the ID badge they had found earlier on the fifth floor?

Down below, Warren seemed to change the moment he heard it. He grabbed Jasmine by the arm and barked up at the others.

“Break the stairs! Now!”

He dragged Jasmine upstairs, while the others rushed forward with fire axes and crude tools they had made themselves.

Three of them were strength-enhanced Gifted.

The reinforced concrete staircase echoed with heavy blows as they smashed into it again and again.

Chunks of concrete cracked and broke away.

“Let go of me!” Jasmine struggled violently in Warren’s grip. “You murderer! Don’t touch me! Don’t tough me! I told you not to touch me!”

She suddenly leaned forward and bit down hard on Warren’s arm.

That did it.

Warren’s temper exploded.

When they reached the sixth floor, he ignored Hayley standing nearby and shoved lasise inside the hallwas

“I can’t touch you, but Osbert can?” he snarled “Don’t forget something Pro your legal and Osbert was the doctetsg coveting what isn’t his!”

“You’re the douchebag Jasmine shot back. “You’re the worst

Sanack!

“If you miss him that much, go and find him!”

After hitting her, he turned and ran back toward the stairs.

Jasmine collapsed on the floor, sobbing and gasping for breath.

Ellen had been watching the whole scene as if it were entertainment. Her face lit up with satisfaction.

“Serves her right!” she said. “She deserves it. Better if she died, too!”

Hayley glanced at her.

Ellen met her gaze, eyes flicking with calculation.

“Wanna know who Osbert is?” she asked.

“No.”

“Well, I’ll tell you anyway,” Ellen said smugly. “Osbert’s her ex-husband.”

She looked down at Jasmine with obvious glee.

“Lucky woman, though. She’s got so many men chasing after her, but it looks like her good days are finally over.”

“Did she steal your boyfriend?” Hayley asked calmly.

Ellen turned to her in surprise. “You can read minds or something?”

Hayley had no idea what to say.

Did that really require mind-reading? Ellen had been trash-talking Jasmine nonstop and setting her up again and again. Either Jasmine had killed her family, or taken her man.
