Chapter 652

Ellen didn’t have a free hand to fix the backpack sliding off her shoulder. She just tightened her grip and kept climbing

Once she made it up, the last two people stepped forward.

They were a married couple. The husband jumped into the elevator shaft first. He pressed himself against the inner wall and reached out his hand.

“Come on,” he said to his wife.

She grabbed the doorframe carefully and stretched her arm toward him.

Just as their hands finally connected and her body tipped into the shaft….

Potatoes suddenly came raining down from above.

A whole pile of them.

The man’s grip jerked violently as the weight shifted. The next second, his wife slipped and fell straight down with the tumbling potatoes.

“Honey!”

“My potatoes!”

The man and Ellen shouted at the same time.

Thud!

The woman hit the bottom of the elevator shaft like a sack of meat. Blood spread across the dark floor instantly.

Her skull burst on impact. Pieces of bone and flesh were scattered across the concrete. Her body twisted into several broken angles. One arm slammed into the elevator doors at the bottom.

Her face landed on top of a potato. The potato smashed flat against her face, filling her eyes and nose with sticky

mash.

The people above hadn’t even processed what happened yet, when…

Boom!

The elevator doors on the first floor burst open.

A dense wave of zombies poured in.

“Raarh!”

“Raarh!”

“Raarh!”

Within seconds, the horde surrounded the still-warm corpse.

They fell onto the flattened body and tore into it, chewing and ripping with frantic hunger.

Some of the faster, mare evolved zombies moved quickly.

They sensed movement above in the elevator shaft. With a guttural howl, several of them grabbed the ladder and began climbing

“Move! Move!” Ellen shouted.

The elevator shaft echoed with chaos as she scrambled upward as fast as she could.

“Raarh!”

Meanwhile, on the sixth floor…

Zombies kept pouring up through the stairwell.

Warren and the others braced themselves at the entrance using thick wooden tables as shields. Every time a zombie lunged up, they slammed the tables forward to knock it back.

But each charge pushed them farther and farther back.

More zombies kept piling in from below.

The third floor was already completely packed. Bodies were stacking higher and higher until the swarm had nearly reached the fourth floor.

The small remaining section of the fifth-floor stairs had become a launching point. Wave after wave of zombies surged upward.

They couldn’t hold much longer.

Hayley checked the time again.

It had already been 30 minutes. Why weren’t Liam and the others back yet?

Bang!

Suddenly, the barricade they had built cracked in the center.

Donnie had been holding that position. The impact knocked him backward. The middle of the defense collapsed instantly.

A zombie wearing a torn office skirt suit lunged through the opening. Its face was pale and stretched tight with hunger.

Every muscle in its jaw pulled wide as it opened its mouth as far as it would go. Yellow teeth snapped forward, strands of saliva stretching between them.

It lunged straight for the gap.
