The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 654

Chapter 654

“What did you just say?”

Jasmine stared at Warren in disbelief, the madness in her eyes giving way to shock.

“I said your divorce from Osbert was my doing!” Warren replied coldly, as if none of it mattered anymore. “Do you know what he said before he died? He told me to take care of you. Said if I looked after you, he’d fight to the death to make sure I escaped.”

He laughed harshly,

“You loved him so much, didn’t you? Then go find him. Go on! Go die with him!”

Warren shoved her hard onto the stairs of the upper floor.

Below them, the zombie horde was once again trapped at the broken gap on the eighth floor.

The echoes of their howling filled the stairwell.

For a moment, Jasmine stood there listening. Then suddenly, she grew quiet as the panic drained from her face.

She looked up at Warren as he ran ahead alone, and then followed him.

Meanwhile, Hayley and her team had already reached the 14th floor.

When they got there, Hayley spotted someone familiar.

Ellen was sprawled on the floor by herself, her face pale as paper. She looked terrified when she saw Hayley approaching.

“You’re here!” Ellen rushed forward. “I’ll go with you! I’ll give you all my potatoes. Just take me with you!”

Hayley raised an eyebrow at the sudden change in attitude. “Where are the others?”

“The others…”

Smack!

A bloody handprint slammed against the fire door behind Ellen.

Theo staggered into view.

He was drenched in blood. A huge chunk of his left cheek had been torn away, exposing the bone beneath. Blood poured from the gaping wound.

He tried to call for help, but when he lifted his head, he lifted the zombie head clamped onto his neck as well.

The corpse was still chewing. It gnawed wildly at the flesh of his throat, tearing through lymph nodes, muscles, and arteries.

“Raarh! Raarh!”

Theo opened his mouth, and blood bubbled out with every breath. From the shape of his lips, it was clear what he was trying to say.

Help me.

Help me.

Then footsteps echoed above them.

Tap. Tap.

A man limped out from the upper stairwell, his entire body soaked in blood.

Both of his legs had been hollowed out.

Below his torn shorts were nothing but two bare leg bones. Half of his backside had been chewed away.

Strangely, his upper body was mostly intact.

Except for his eyes, which had already turned gray-white.

Hayley recognized him. He had been one of the people who chose to leave earlier.

“Raarh!”

The newly turned zombie opened its blood-smeared mouth and lunged downward, staggering forward on its exposed leg bones.

Bang!

Liam shot it through the head.

“I thought we cleared the upper floors,” Liam muttered, frowning. “Where did that one come from?”

Before anyone could answer, the nearby safety door began slamming violently.
