The Endgame Chronicles (by Hugh White) novel Chapter 692

Chapter 692

“And once someone’s newly infected, they’re fully turned within five minutes, “Ruby said, frowning. “You could say the rom virus was accelerated by them.”

Hayley went still, the weight of it settling in.

So it really was man-made.

Something evil had fallen from the sky, and a bunch of lunatics had pushed it into becoraing hell on earth.

Hayley’s thoughts drifted to her rebirth, to how the outbreak had come earlier this time. If people were behind it, then even a small shift could set off a chain reaction and trigger everything sooner.

But if it had been a natural disaster, nothing she did should’ve changed the timeline.

“Then what about the Gifted who didn’t turn?” Hayley asked.

Ruby looked at her.

“I think that’s exactly the kind of evolution they were aiming for.

“The original virus didn’t have a high infection rate. When the outbreak first hit, only about 30% of weaker people turned right away. But once the zombies matured, their bites and scratches had a 100% infection rate.

“Anyone still alive now is basically immune to the original strain. And among them, some awakened abilities.

“In a twisted way, that does count as evolution.”

Hayley fell into silence, her thoughts sinking deeper.

Evolution.

So this whole thing was a man-made evolutionary disaster.

“They’re insane!” she said through clenched teeth. “What the hell were they thinking?”

A cold edge settled in her chest.

Ascendant Creed had just become her league’s number one enemy. She would kill every one of them she ran into

Those lunatics didn’t deserve to live!

Ruby shook her head.

“I don’t get it either. From what my ex told me, they’ve always believed humans are inferior, with fragile bodies, slap lifespans, and limited ability, but somehow overflowing with confidence. They think we act like we rule everything be just ignorant, weak carbon-based lifeforms.

Hayley just stared at her, at a complete loss for words.

“I swear, I hope that whole soup turns into zombies,” Ruby went on “If they want to shed the right ahead. And if some advanced alien civilization ever shows up, I guarantee they’d be the freak us out. Makes my skin crawl just thinking about it.”

Hayley nodded again and again

“By the way, Aunt Ruby, how did we even end up with someone like your ex

Ruby let out a long sigh “Well, he was hot.”

“You have no idea how good-looking he was,” Ruby said, eyes lighting up. “Stars in his eyes. If he looked at you for three seconds, you’d want to jump him and rip his clothes off.”

Hayley stared at her, completely speechless.

“Then why did you divorce him? Just different beliefs?”

“Not really. He was too clingy,” Ruby said with a skrug. “He was always stuck to me, always staring at me with those eyes. I couldn’t handle it, and it kept messing with my research. So I kicked him out.”

Hayley paused, then gave a small nod. “Respect.”
