“It’s true. I’m working in the farming team now,” Felix said. “There are only about a dozen of us, and we’re managing hundreds of acres of crops. There’s so much out there now. More than you can imagine.”
When he finished, Kieran, who had been silent, finally spoke.
“You two went out for a bit and came back full of mansense,” he said coldly. “You don’t even bother making your lies believable. “We’re serious,” Felix insisted. “If you don’t believe us, send someone with us. Just take a look, and you’ll know.”
“Enough,” Kieran cut him off. “You came back for a reason. What is it?”
“To bring all of you with us,” a clear voice answered from behind them. “And to see what’s really going on in that inner camp” Hayley stepped out of the vehicle, dressed in her work-combat gear.
Kieran locked onto her, his stubborn eyes flashing with hostility. “So you finally show your real intentions. Let me make this clear. You want our land? You want access to the inner camp? Not happening!”
“Captain Reid.” Scott’s voice came from the side. “I’ve been talking to these old-timers for hours. They won’t change. Might as well wipe them out instead of wasting time.”
Hayley shot him a look. “Pull your people back. I’ll handle this.”
Scott frowned. “You really want to keep them?”
Of course, she did.
Hayley had never been someone who killed for the sake of it. These people hadn’t done anything wrong. There was no reason to kill them.
Somewhere along the way, her mindset had shifted.
At first, everyone close was an enemy. Then it became groups banding together against everything else.
Now, the only real enemies left in her eyes were zombies and anyone working with them.
Everyone else who was still alive was on her side. Fellow survivors who stood in direct opposition to the andead
That was the most basic line you didn’t cross.
Humans and zombies could never coexist.
After sending Scott away, Hayley turned back to Kieran. “Relax. No one’s touching your people.”
“You think we’ll fall for that?” Kieran scoffed.
Hayley’s expression cooled. “Look, old man I’m not known for being patient. Don’t push it
“What ”
“Kieran!” Laurel and Felix rushed over, grabbing onto his arms from both sides,
“We’re not lying!
