Chapter 776
It was obvious June hadn Thad anyone new to talk to in a long time.
Once she got started, she didn’t stop, chatting nonstop as the SUV pushed forward.
From her rambling, Hayley pieced together what this group had been through.
At the beginning, they had tried joining several bases they came across along the way. But every single one had been a mess.
The moment you joined, you had to hand over all your supplies. You were forced into labot, clearing zombies, building structures, running whatever missions the base demanded. In the end, you got nothing. You were expected to fend for yourself even after doing all the work.
It was blatant exploitation.
Some places were even worse. There were bases that only accepted women, turning everyone else away.
And there was one that treated people like livestock.
Others had completely regressed into something primitive, with one self-proclaimed king hoarding a group of women.
After running into enough places like that, they had given up on the idea of joining any base at all. Staying on the move was the better option.
After listening to June vent, Hayley glanced at her. “Once you finish checking the last place, where do you go?”
June fell quiet for the first time, the question catching her off guard.
“I don’t know.”
There wasn’t an answer.
At the start of everything, they had genuinely been trying to go home. Some of their original group had made it, found family, and stayed behind, joining whatever base they could.
But by the middle stage of the apocalypse, finding family was no longer realistic.
What they had now was just a sense of purpose, something to keep them moving.
Once they finished checking the last place, they truly had no idea where to go.
Hayley looked at her. “If you’ve got nowhere to go after that, you can consider Aecraton.”
“Aecraton?”
“Yeah. The zombies there have already been cleared out. Even Brookville up ahead is a safe zone. It’s a good place to settle.”
June’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“How do you know that?” Zach asked.
“I came from there,” Hayley said with a faint smile.
The entire car fell silent. Everyone was clearly thinking over her words.
Just then, Hayley felt the vehicle beneath her begin to tremble.
“Damn it! It’s here!” June’s expression changed as she stared into the green fog
In the driver’s seat, Spencer Benson slammed the accelerator, and the engine reared as the vehicle surged forward
“What is that?” Hayley asked

Through the glass, she could make out the vague outline of a massive figure.
It was at least ten feet tall, with an oversized head, like a giant wandering through the thick fog, searching for something.
“A super mutant zombie from this area!”
As June spoke, a deafening crash rang out.
A massive billboard slammed down onto the tracks ahead.
The modified vehicle screeched as it braked hard, coming to an abrupt stop on the broken road beside the rails. The noise immediately drew the attention of the creature in the fog.
The giant zombie let out a beast-like growl and came thundering toward them.
Spencer’s eyes flicked to the rearview mirror. He spun the wheel sharply, the vehicle whipping around before roaring back to life. With the high beams blazing, it sped off again across the uneven road,
