The Ending She Read (And the One He Rewrote) novel Chapter 11

Tricks.

*Tsk tsk.*

The fleeting thought of *with a face like that, no wonder the original Harriet was so blindly in love with this bastard* vanished instantly.

Harriet withdrew her gaze. "Think whatever you want. No matter what I do, you're always going to think I'm playing tricks. ... Prejudice is like an immovable mountain. From now on, you don't have to try and move it. The mountain is packing up and leaving, okay?"

Jason's gaze landed on her face.

In five years of marriage, this was only the second time he had truly looked at her.

The first time was last night at the hospital, when she was a mess yet so vulnerable, like she had fallen from the clouds into the mud, yet refused to break.

This was the second time.

Suddenly, Jason realized that Harriet was beautiful.

She had a flawless profile, a delicate nose, and a pair of truly stunning eyes.

Hidden in those bright, clear eyes was a hint of cunning that flashed by so fast it disappeared before anyone could figure it out.

Seeing Jason's complicated expression, Harriet frowned. "What?"

Did she say something wrong?

A trace of amusement flickered in his eyes. "You think... you're a mountain?"

Harriet: ...

The jerk only cared about nitpicking her words.

It was a metaphor. Did he not understand a metaphor?

Rolling her eyes ungracefully, she pulled the topic back. "When are you going to give me the divorce papers?"

Jason paused.

She took the initiative. "You get our son, I get Seraphina. We split the rest of the marital assets in half. That's not too much to ask, right?"

"If you work efficiently, we can finalize the paperwork by August."

"Oh, right..." Snapping out of her rambling, she added, "I know Jane Quentin is back. You two are reuniting after a long separation, sparks flying and all."

His face darkened.

But she wasn't afraid of him. They were getting divorced anyway. "So be careful when you go out lately. An amicable divorce versus a cheating scandal—I imagine the impact on the Whitaker Group's stock price would be very different, don't you think?"

For a moment, he couldn't tell if she was playing a twisted game or being serious.

Jason glanced at Archer and Seraphina chasing each other in the distance.

Since they were in the womb, the twins had never been separated.
