He whipped his head around.
*Click!*
The flash went off.
He immediately saw Harriet crouched behind him, taking photos.
Completely oblivious, she looked at her phone, thoroughly impressed with herself. "Wow, I am such a good photographer!"
Archer: ...
As evening approached, she paused and said she needed to use the restroom.
His heart jumped. *It's happening!*
The evil woman was making her move!
"Archer..." Glancing at the bodyguards hidden in the shadows, she led him to a lion bench right in front of the fountain. "Sit here and don't run off. I'm going to the restroom. I'll be right back."
He didn't say a word.
She sighed. She couldn't exactly take a little boy into the women's restroom, could she?
Looking around, she jogged over to an ice cream cart, bought a scoop, and handed it to him. "I promise, before you even finish this, I'll be back."
"Don't wander off..."
Ruffling his hair, she bolted toward the restrooms.
Everywhere he looked, every kid was with a parent or a grandparent. He was the only one alone.
Where were the bodyguards?
Had she sent them away?
Was this how she lost Seraphina too?
The chocolate ice cream tasted bitter in his mouth.
When he swallowed, it sent a chill straight to his core.
He looked toward the restrooms, again and again.
Turning back, he met the stares of strangers evaluating him. His heart hammered faster, and his palms grew colder.
"Hey kid, why are you alone? Where are your parents?"
"Are you lost? Do you want me to take you to security?"
Evil woman!
She had actually abandoned him!
His eyes began to burn, and his hand felt like it was frozen to the ice cream cone.
