"It works. Try it on."

Mallory spoke to the clerk and was just about to head to the fitting room.

"That one as well. Pack it up." Preston stood a short distance away, pointing directly at the dress in Mallory's hands.

The clerk looked between them, completely torn and unsure of what to do.

Mallory looked up at the ceiling, took a deep breath to force down the blazing fury in her chest, and then shot a glacial glare at Preston.

Preston, hands casually tucked into his pockets, met her gaze with cool indifference.

They simply stared at each other in silence. The years seemed to wash over the space between them like water, leaving absolutely no trace behind.

After a long, suffocating moment, Mallory angrily shoved the dress back into the clerk's arms.

"Where did this wild dog come from? Wanting to snatch whatever anyone else has. Have you never seen nice things before?" she snapped.

Right on cue, the young girl emerged from the fitting room, walking over to Preston with a confused expression. "Preston, darling, what's wrong?"

Preston didn't answer her. He kept his calm, unblinking gaze fixed on Mallory.

"What terrible luck. Running into a total psycho. I should have checked my horoscope before leaving the house."

"What did you just say? Do you have any idea who Preston is? With a wave of his hand, he could buy half the city!"

Surprisingly, it was the young girl who stepped forward, shielding Preston and screaming at Mallory.

Half the city?

Jillian almost laughed. Even the Quincy family wouldn't dare make such a boastful claim.

However, looking at the girl, she seemed like a naive college student. It was perfectly normal for someone with so little life experience to be clueless.

What Jillian didn't understand was why Preston, a highly successful member of high society, would fancy such a young, immature girl. Wasn't he afraid of people mocking him for robbing the cradle?

Jillian didn't know much about Preston's background, but she had always held a good impression of him. She saw him as an ambitious, capable young man who had risen from poverty. She never expected that, after achieving success, his tastes would be as vulgar as a dirty old man's.

"Oh my, how terrifying. Buying half the city with a wave of his hand. Why didn't you just say he owns all of the entire city?"

Mallory lazily rolled her eyes and grabbed Jillian's arm, ready to leave.

Besides, Preston hardly seemed the type.

"Are you sure Preston... sold... himself?"

"Positive."

"When? For how long?"

Mallory looked up, appearing to think about it seriously. "I don't know the specifics. I'm pretty sure I was his only client."

Jillian suddenly found herself entirely out of words.

She stared at Mallory and suddenly reached out to feel her forehead.

Mallory smacked her hand away. "What are you doing? That makes me look like an idiot!"

"If he only ever sold himself to you, that's not selling. That's called dating," Jillian pointed out.

Mallory fell dead silent.
