"What's wrong?" Mallory Vaughn noticed her discomfort.

"Nothing, I probably just ate something bad," Jillian Jarrett replied.

Mallory knew exactly why she was upset and muttered under her breath, "I used to think Killian Quincy was decent, but he's just another cheating bastard stringing along a woman on the side. I guess there are no good men left."

Jillian didn't want to ruin her friend's mood. She looked up with a forced smile. "With Killian's status and wealth, it's normal for him to have a mistress."

"A man's loyalty has nothing to do with his status. Believe me, even a broke guy will keep his eyes on the next best thing if he's decent-looking."

As Mallory finished speaking, Jillian's eyes shifted, signaling her to stop.

Mallory caught the hint and turned around, shocked to see Preston Pierce standing right behind her.

And the young girl he had been fighting over the dress with earlier was nowhere in sight.

"Excuse me," Preston said coldly, brushing past her.

Mallory blinked in confusion. She couldn't understand why Preston hadn't brought his little girlfriend along.

He had spent a fortune buying her a dress earlier, even snatching the one Mallory wanted, yet here he was at the gala—completely alone.

"What a psycho. There's plenty of room, but he just had to walk right behind me. He did that on purpose, didn't he?"

Jillian bit her lip to suppress a laugh. She found Preston amusing, but Mallory was even more entertaining.

"He didn't bring the girl from earlier," Jillian noted.

"Right? I was wondering the same thing. Spending all that money on a dress for her, only to leave her at home. Does he just have too much cash to burn?" Mallory scoffed.

A little while later, the charity auction officially began.

Everyone took their assigned seats. Jillian and Mallory were seated toward the back.

After a fierce bidding war, the host's booming voice announced the final result. "Congratulations! Mr. Silas Xavier has won tonight's grand finale piece for three million dollars. Let's give it up for Mr. Xavier!"

Enthusiastic applause erupted from the audience.

Most of the guests were business tycoons, socialites, or top-tier celebrities. While they were all wealthy and powerful, Silas was different.

He carried the prestigious title of a traditional artist. His refined and cultured aura made him stand out beautifully amidst the heavy commercial atmosphere.

Thanks to his esteemed status, the crowd held a genuine respect for him, and the applause was noticeably louder than before.

Silas slowly raised his hand, pressing it down gently to quiet the room.

Holding the microphone, his voice was warm yet steady and powerful.

"I had two main reasons for bidding on this piece. First, to support this wonderful charity. Protecting the environment and coexisting with nature is a responsibility we all share, and I hope this auction inspires more people to join the cause."
