She guessed the elegant woman was Silas's current wife.

Judith let out a cold laugh. "The great artist is terrified of his wife, I see. What's wrong? Afraid you'll starve if she kicks you to the curb?"

Silas shot her a venomous glare but couldn't muster a single word in his defense.

He stood up straight, smoothed down his expensive bespoke suit, grabbed the two glasses of wine, and hurried back toward Madeline and Sienna.

Judith immediately spotted Sienna. She had only met her once, back when Jillian and Killian were getting engaged.

Even then, Sienna's unbearable arrogance had left a lasting impression on her.

From that very moment, she knew her daughter's life with her in-laws would be miserable.

Panic surged through Judith. If Sienna recognized her, it would only give the Quincys more reason to look down on Jillian.

She hurriedly wiped away the last of the spill, pulled her mask up, secured her hairnet, and practically ran off with her cleaning supplies.

Silas arrived back at Madeline and Sienna's side, holding the drinks. "Did I keep you two ladies waiting?"

Madeline looked slightly annoyed. "What took you so long?"

"The cleaning staff accidentally spilled something on my shoe. I had to go deal with it."

Madeline frowned and took her glass of wine from his hand.

"Oh no, I'm doomed. I just had a few bites of cake and now I have a food baby. I'm going to split this dress open, aren't I?"

Mallory complained, looking down in despair.

"You're fine," Jillian said, reaching out to pat her stomach. "There's no food baby."

After grabbing a quick bite, the two of them returned to the center of the grand hall.

They had arrived early when the hall was relatively empty, but now, the venue was packed with guests.

They immediately spotted Killian, who was entirely surrounded by a fawning crowd.

And the silver snake brooch pinned to Killian's lapel paired flawlessly with the white diamond snake necklace draped over Sylvia's collarbones.

Jillian lowered her head, a wave of profound bitterness washing over her.

Killian was never the type to care about his clothes. He always had professionals handle his styling because he refused to waste time on trivialities.

Yet, he was willing to go out of his way to coordinate his accessories with Sylvia, completely indifferent to the speculation it would spark.

If this wasn't a public declaration of their relationship, what was?

"That jewelry set Sylvia is wearing is worth millions of dollars."

"Isn't that the exact set Mr. Quincy won at the auction a while back? So he bought it for his girlfriend."

Several wealthy socialites continued their hushed gossip nearby.

The more Jillian listened, the more agonizing the sting in her heart became, as if a thick wad of cotton had been shoved down her throat, suffocating her.
