Leon waved her off casually. "It's nothing."

But Jillian immediately spotted the bright crimson staining his palm. Drops of blood were steadily seeping through his fingers.

Jillian's heart lurched. He must have dragged his hand through the shattered glass during the scuffle with Preston.

Jillian quickly began rummaging through the nearby cabinets. But since this was an entertainment lounge, the drawers only held wet wipes and napkins—no first-aid supplies whatsoever.

Leon didn't seem concerned. "It's fine. I'll just go rinse it off."

"You can't wash it with tap water! It'll get infected." Jillian grabbed his arm, quickly yanking the decorative silk scarf off her collar.

She pressed a wad of napkins hard against the gash to staunch the bleeding, then expertly bound the silk scarf tightly around his hand. Her movements were swift and precise, executing a flawless makeshift tourniquet.

"Let's go. I'm taking you to the hospital."

Without giving him a chance to argue, Jillian dragged him out the door.

Leon allowed himself to be pulled along. He stared down at the frantic, determined back of the woman leading him, a faint, undeniable smile blooming in his eyes.

In all his years, this was the first time a woman his age had ever fretted over him so intensely. Being coddled and bossed around felt remarkably novel—and surprisingly pleasant.

"Did you know the guy causing trouble back there?" Leon asked on the way.

"You could say that," Jillian nodded. "We went to the same university, but he wasn't there for me. He was there for my friend, Mallory."

Leon hummed in understanding. "I thought it was just some random drunk looking for a fight."

"I really owe you for today," Jillian said.

She knew full well that Preston had completely lost his mind in a drunken rage. With how strong he was, if he had successfully dragged Mallory off, God only knew what would have happened.

And Mallory clearly hadn't wanted to go with him.

"Though your friend literally abandoned you to chase after him," Leon teased. "Looks like they're locked in a pretty twisted romance."

Jillian let out a dry laugh. "I honestly don't fully understand their dynamic either."

"Pretty much," Leon admitted without shame.

Around noon, Daniel took Jillian out for lunch. Over the meal, he brought up Leon's injured hand.

Jillian looked slightly embarrassed. "I was actually the reason he got hurt."

"It involved you?"

"Well, not entirely."

She gave him a brief rundown of the previous night's chaos, carefully omitting the more dramatic details of the lovers' quarrel.

"If that's the case, I'll host a dinner for everyone soon so we can formally introduce them."

Jillian understood immediately. By "everyone," Daniel undoubtedly meant bringing Mallory along.

Leon had indirectly saved Mallory last night. A favor like that definitely needed to be repaid.
