After packing everything up, Jillian rented a new apartment in a neighborhood relatively close to The Yale Residences. It was a three-bedroom unit, spacious and bright, with all utilities and appliances ready for them to move right in.

Since she was already there, she drove her grandmother and mother over to get them settled.

With a new place to stay, Lydia's emotions stabilized significantly.

Jillian had been so busy she hadn't had a bite to eat, and it was already evening.

She decided to drive out and buy some new daily necessities for her grandmother and mother.

Judith accompanied her.

"Jill, I'm so sorry. You must be exhausted today."

Jillian frowned. "Why are you saying that? This is my duty."

After starting the car, she realized it was getting late, and she still didn't know if Connor was back from school.

She called The Yale Residences, and Mrs. Zeller answered.

"Young Master Connor isn't home. He went straight to the Xavier family after school," Mrs. Zeller's tone carried unmistakable smugness.

"Why did he go there?"

"Today is Silas's birthday. The Xavier family threw a special birthday soirée for him, and Mr. Quincy and Young Master Connor are their esteemed guests."

Mrs. Zeller sounded so proud she practically almost asked Jillian why she wasn't invited.

Jillian let out a sharp laugh out of pure anger.

All day long, she had been suppressing her fury. She and her grandmother and mother had shared an unspoken agreement not to mention the person most likely to have reported them.

She never expected that he would be happily throwing a birthday bash.

Hearing the speakerphone, Judith couldn't hold it in any longer and burst into tears.

It had been so many years since the divorce, and she thought they were done with him forever.

She didn't expect him to still refuse to let them go.
