"Don't let my wife know," Silas whispered frantically to the security guard, panic flashing in his eyes.
"Don't let me know what?"
An arrogant female voice suddenly rang out. Madeline Xavier walked over briskly, adjusting the shawl over her shoulders, the absolute picture of a wealthy matriarch.
Silas went stiff, his face turning pale.
"N-nothing," he stammered. "There are some strangers making trouble outside. I was just telling security to block them so they don't disturb the guests."
Madeline shot him a strange look, clearly not buying his excuse entirely.
At that exact moment, Jillian and Judith stepped into the mansion's grand hall.
The lavish soirée was in full swing, brimming with glamorous guests. A melodious piano tune flowed softly through the air as people raised their glasses and murmured to one another.
Jillian swept her gaze across the room but couldn't find Silas anywhere. Just as she was getting confused, a sharp, hostile glare locked onto her.
Sylvia Xavier marched straight over in her stilettos, her face twisted with disgust. She blocked their path, her tone aggressive. "Who let you in?"
"I'm looking for Silas," Jillian replied calmly, showing no intention of backing down.
Sylvia scoffed aloud. "Do you think Silas is someone you can just demand to see? Do you think the Xavier family is a public market? Get out right now, or I'm calling the police and pressing charges for trespassing!"
Judith was terrified by her aggression and instinctively clutched Jillian's sleeve.
Just then, a cold gaze fell upon Jillian.
Jillian looked up and met the eyes of a man standing not too far away.
Killian leaned casually against the bar, a glass of red wine between his fingers, his dark eyes locked heavily onto her.
But the moment Jillian looked at him, he casually averted his gaze, chatting and laughing with the guests beside him with an air of total indifference.
It was as if everything happening right in front of him had absolutely nothing to do with him.
