Sylvia's gaze darkened significantly.
A woman's intuition was always razor-sharp. She easily deciphered the silent comparison running through Jasper's mind, and a suffocating wave of jealousy immediately burned in her chest.
If the woman had been a vapid supermodel or an actress, she wouldn't have cared at all. But this was another female tech engineer—someone firmly in her own territory. To be unfavorably compared to a rival left her deeply unsettled.
Her tone was laced with frost. "Whatever you're thinking, just spit it out."
"Nothing, nothing at all!" Jasper snapped out of his daze, frantically pulling back his expression. He wouldn't dare publicly admit that Sophia was leagues above Sylvia. Not only would it infuriate Sylvia, but it would definitely incur Killian's wrath.
Killian's brows pinched together as he spoke up, his voice cool. "Who exactly are you talking about?"
Though his tone was indifferent, there was an unmistakable undercurrent of curiosity.
"It's Sophia, the one blowing up all over the news," Jasper explained with a grin. "None of you have seen her in person yet, but once her new magazine cover drops, I'll introduce you guys."
At the mention of that name, Killian's frown deepened, but he quickly slipped his mask of lazy apathy back into place, turning to climb back into his car.
Only Sylvia dug her manicured nails into her palms, a tempest of panic raging in her heart.
Sophia.
Out of everyone at the track, she was the sole person who knew that this glamorous, highly-praised tech prodigy was actually Jillian.
She truly hadn't expected Jasper to be entirely oblivious to Jillian's true identity.
Over the past two days, Jillian had accomplished a crucial task: she managed to recover and reactivate her old cell phone number from years ago.
Using the number that had been dormant for five years, she sent a voice message to Connor.
