"You're Jillian?" Jasper stared in sheer disbelief.
Jillian offered a slight nod.
"Holy shit!"
Jasper lost his composure, blurting out a curse as if he had just witnessed something unfathomable.
He abruptly sprang to his feet, his dining chair scraping violently against the floor and letting out a sharp, ear-piercing screech.
His eyes were filled with rejection. "How could it be you?"
He completely failed to process the fact that the blind date he had been swooning over for days was actually Jillian—the woman he had always despised and even bullied.
In the past, he would have instantly run his mouth, spitting out all sorts of harsh, mocking insults.
But now, he opened his mouth, yet his throat felt blocked, rendering him completely speechless.
Over the past few days, he had genuinely started to fall for Sophia.
Reality had just delivered a brutal, unexpected slap to his face, leaving him thoroughly humiliated.
"Mr. Ashton, you never asked for my Chinese name. I planned to tell you today anyway, but I suppose there's no need now," Jillian said, her tone perfectly calm and indifferent.
"Are you intentionally screwing with me?" A surge of rage swelled in Jasper's chest, his expression turning dark.
Jillian shook her head, her demeanor open. "I simply didn't want to disregard a friend's good intentions. Besides, I made it very clear last time that there is no possibility between us. This is only our second meeting; I wouldn't call that screwing with you."
With that, Jillian stood up, offered a polite nod to Killian and the rest of the group, and turned on her heel to leave.
A layer of fine, cold sweat instantly broke out on Jasper's forehead. He turned to Killian in a panic to explain. "Killian, I swear I didn't know! I didn't suspect a thing! You know my eyesight has been terrible these past few years. I never imagined..."
Killian waved a hand dismissively, his expression devoid of any emotion. "There's no need to be nervous. Who you go on blind dates with is entirely your own business."
