So all that talk about a tech goddess and an elite overseas background was just fluff; what truly attracted men was still just a pretty face.

He turned his head to look at Sylvia beside him. The vibrant, girlish joy shining brightly on her face made a faint warmth spread through his chest.

Jasper kept checking his watch. The agreed-upon time was approaching, yet his date was nowhere to be seen. Anxiety gnawed at him. "Is she standing me up?"

A message from Jillian popped up on his phone. "I'm too exhausted after my afternoon class. I'm afraid I won't be able to make it."

Jillian had previously warned him that the chances of her attending were slim, but Jasper had insisted on booking the high-end restaurant, claiming he would wait no matter what and that he absolutely didn't mind.

Jasper disappointedly replied with a voice message. "Then we'll just have to reschedule for another day."

The group behind the screen heard everything clearly and felt thoroughly disappointed. Sylvia's heart sank the most. She had gone through so much trouble to convince Killian to come. If he didn't get to see Jillian going on a date with someone else, this whole charade would be pointless.

She secretly anticipated Killian's reaction upon discovering that Sophia was actually Jillian. Especially since Jillian had deliberately avoided him after returning to the country, using her English name Sophia for public appearances, and even snatching two major industry deals that should have belonged to Sylvia.

Hearing the obvious disappointment in Jasper's voice message, Jillian suddenly remembered something. She had planned to completely reject this blind date anyway, but she hadn't gotten the chance to inform him about her past—that she was divorced and had a son. This meeting would be the perfect opportunity to clear everything up.

Changing her mind, she stood up, straightened her clothes, and sent a text. "Give me a moment. I'll be right there."

Jillian didn't bother with makeup. She remained in the light blue pantsuit she had worn for her afternoon lecture, casually smoothed out her long hair, and drove straight to the restaurant.

Following the table number Jasper had sent, she walked directly over and took a seat. "Sorry to keep you waiting."

She sat with her back to the decorative screen, leaving the group to only see her slender silhouette.

"Damn it, we can't see her face! Text Jasper and tell him to switch seats," a friend suggested in a whisper.
