The people around him, especially the women he used to deal with, had always kissed up to him for his power and money. He had never encountered someone with such a brutally honest temper, whose words slapped harder than hands.

Jillian turned to leave, and Jasper hastily called out to stop her. "Wait, can you at least give me a chance to make it up to you?"

Jillian was so infuriated that she laughed. She arched an eyebrow at him. "Make it up to me?"

She suspected all the alcohol Jasper had drunk tonight had gone straight to his brain. She had just cursed him out, yet he still had the nerve to make a request like that.

"Here's the thing. After the summit ends, we're planning a deep-sea fishing trip on Killian's private yacht. If you're free, you can come with us."

A cold, mocking smile played on Jillian's lips. "Does Killian keep you around just because you're dense enough to make him look smart?"

Jasper didn't catch the heavy sarcasm, but he knew it wasn't a compliment.

"What?" he asked sincerely.

Jillian knew full well that beating around the bush with Jasper was a total waste of time. He used to target her just to suck up to Killian.

Killian hated her, so Jasper acted like a lapdog eager to please its master. Every torment and insult he inflicted on her was merely to make Killian happy.

The Ashton family's foundation was nowhere near as solid as the Quincys, and Jasper himself wasn't even the heir. He had survived all these years by clinging to Killian and leveraging his resources for business. Just like this summit—given the scale of his operations, he had absolutely zero qualifications to attend.

He was only here through his personal connection to Killian.

"I'm not going. Let me make this crystal clear: I despise you, and I don't want to breathe the same air as you." Jillian delivered the final blow and walked away without looking back.

Jasper watched her retreating figure, filled with regret, wishing he had never treated her so horribly.

He had just pulled his gaze back when he saw Killian staring coldly at him from a distance. His heart skipped a beat.
