The other judges were familiar faces who had advanced through the previous rounds; Jillian Jarrett was the only new face in the entire venue.
The host quickly walked to the center of the stage, intentionally inviting Jillian to stand squarely in the spotlight.
"Ms. Sophia is our special guest judge for The International Youth Programming Championship today. Next, let's welcome her to share a few words about her thoughts on the competition."
Jillian took the microphone, her gaze sweeping slowly across the audience. Most of the students and parents didn't recognize her, yet their eyes were filled with admiration, looking up to her as if she were an industry legend.
But in that dense crowd, two distinctly different stares stood out sharply.
Killian Quincy wore his usual cold expression, his eyes completely devoid of emotion, looking at her as if she were a total stranger.
Beside him, Sylvia Xavier's eyes surged with shock and jealousy. Her predatory gaze was a tempest of resentment, locking onto Jillian with unconcealed malice.
Jillian calmly shifted her gaze, her eyes landing on Connor Quincy.
He hung his head, his fingertips anxiously digging into his palms. He clearly hadn't expected his mother to be sitting there as a special guest judge, especially since he had deliberately avoided asking her to come cheer for him over the past few days.
Jillian understood in her heart. Her son was no longer that clueless four-year-old; he could likely sense the subtle hostility between his mother and Sylvia.
He could probably also sense the ambiguous relationship between Sylvia and Killian.
Not knowing how to navigate the situation, he had simply chosen to do nothing at all.
Jillian pulled her lips into a faint, mocking smile. When she spoke, her voice was crisp and steady. "This event is undeniably a top-tier stage for international youth programming. Today, I have witnessed teams from various countries presenting vastly different technical solutions with my own eyes. Serving as a special guest judge is an honor in my career. I hope all the children here today will give it their all, perform to their heart's content, and leave with no regrets."
As her brief speech concluded, the parents in the audience raised their phones to record videos and take photos, the applause rising in waves.
