Jillian retracted her gaze, ignoring Killian as she focused entirely on eating with Mallory.
A short distance away, Connor caught sight of her. He quietly pursed his lips and reached out, gently nudging Killian, who was sitting next to him.
Killian leaned down and replied softly, "It's your mother. I see her."
A flicker of hesitation crossed Connor's eyes. He looked a bit timid, afraid to approach her on his own.
Killian could tell he was nervous.
"Con, I told you—if you want to do something, be bold and do it. I don't want my son to be someone who second-guesses himself and acts like a coward," Killian encouraged him, keeping his voice low.
Bolstered by his father's support, Connor instantly summoned his courage, his clear voice ringing out. "Mom!"
Jillian turned at the sound and gave him a gentle smile. "Have you had dinner yet?"
"Yeah. Dad picked me up today and brought me out to eat."
"Then eat well. Don't eat too late, or you'll get an upset stomach."
Connor nodded vigorously.
Jillian gave him another soft smile, then looked away and resumed her meal.
There weren't many guests in the restaurant at the moment. With only a few scattered tables occupied, the soothing background music gave the atmosphere a subtly lonely vibe.
Having said his piece, Connor felt a hollow ache in his chest. He could clearly feel that his mother was treating him with extraordinary politeness—she wasn't nearly as affectionate as she used to be.
He couldn't help but secretly draw comparisons. If it were that little mute sitting next to his mom right now, she would definitely be smiling much brighter.
She wouldn't be acting like this.
At that thought, Connor's eyes darkened. He hung his head, instantly losing his appetite.
Noticing this, Sylvia reached over and affectionately stroked his hair. "What's wrong, Con? Are you unhappy?"
"No," Connor mumbled dejectedly.
