Killian simply gave a faint nod before withdrawing his gaze, his expression entirely unreadable.

Jillian let out a quiet sigh of relief and said softly, "Then stay here and eat with me."

Sylvia's outstretched hand froze in midair, her face twisting in utter disbelief at the scene unfolding before her.

The atmosphere instantly grew awkward as the others at her table shot her uncomfortable, sidelong glances.

A suffocating wave of humiliation and helplessness crashed over Sylvia.

She never expected that Connor, who usually clung to her every word, would publicly choose Jillian.

This complete loss of control ignited a burning rage in her chest.

She instinctively looked at Killian, her eyes pleading for help, assuming he would step in and order the boy back.

But Killian didn't even notice her gaze; he was already leaning over, deeply engrossed in a business conversation with his friend.

Met with nothing but cold air, Sylvia swallowed her disappointment and dejectedly averted her eyes.

Mallory was equally surprised. She hadn't expected the little boy to be so assertive, and her opinion of Connor instantly improved.

Jillian thoughtfully ordered him a kid's meal, and the three of them settled into a quiet, pleasant dinner.

Mallory continued to casually gossip about her messy history with Preston. Fearing she might say something inappropriate in front of the child, Jillian gently nudged her to tone it down every now and then.

"Oh, relax. Kids grow up eventually. Boys need to learn the right values early on so they don't turn into bastards, right, Con?" Mallory teased with a grin.

Connor only half-understood, but he nodded obediently. "Right."

"What a good boy. Looks like there's hope for you yet. You won't end up a jerk like your dad," Mallory said, reaching out to lightly pinch his cheek.

Connor bashfully ducked his head.

"Look at that, he's blushing." Mallory laughed even harder.

"Alright, stop teasing the poor kid," Jillian interrupted with an exasperated sigh.

Connor quietly shuffled a little closer to Jillian's side.
