Killian instinctively pulled her closer, glancing down to inspect her ankle.
Jillian and Mallory, already seated in their car, caught the entire performance through the windshield.
Mallory scoffed from the driver's seat in pure disgust. "Here comes the dramatic act again. She never quits. Ugh, let's get out of here before it ruins my night."
With that, she fired up the engine, whipped the car around, and sped away from the restaurant.
As the streetlights blurred past the window, Jillian checked the rearview mirror and clearly saw Killian bending down to scoop Sylvia into his arms. She looked away, her expression perfectly serene and entirely indifferent.
Back at the entrance, Killian held Sylvia but turned to his friend. "Drive Sylvia home for me."
Sylvia stiffened, her hand subconsciously gripping Killian's shirt as if silently protesting the rejection.
"I have to get Connor home first. He needs to be in bed by nine, or he won't wake up tomorrow. I'll check on you in the morning."
The friend had been about to suggest Killian drive her himself, but hearing the firm tone, he wisely kept his mouth shut and rushed to open the passenger door.
Killian carefully set Sylvia in the back seat, murmured a few instructions to his friend, and then drove off with Connor.
By the time his car pulled out of the lot, Jillian and Mallory were already long gone.
On the way home, Killian kept his eyes on the road, casually questioning the boy beside him. "What did Mallory talk to you about back there?"
He already knew that Mallory Vaughn would never waste an opportunity to trash talk him and Sylvia.
"Nothing much," Connor answered obediently. "She just asked where I went to school and how my grades were."
A cold, knowing smirk tugged at the corner of Killian's mouth. He didn't believe that for a second.
Knowing Mallory's fiery personality, there was no way she had stopped at small talk.
Late that night, after a quick shower, Jillian sat diligently at her computer to finish some work.
Her phone suddenly buzzed with an incoming call from Daniel.
"I got a tip from a broker. Killian is thinking about selling SwiftPath AI. What's your take on it?"
