"That baby girl Jillian gave birth to back then... you made sure it was handled properly, right?"

She cast a paranoid glance around the room. Once she was certain no one was listening, she shot Sylvia an irritated glare. "Why are you bringing this up now?"

"I just need to know."

Madeline steadied her breathing. "Don't worry. It was flawless. There's no trail."

Sylvia let out a long breath. "Good."

She stood up to head back to her bedroom, but just as she hit the stairs, she heard footsteps above her. She looked up and nearly screamed as a tall figure stepped out of the shadows.

Gibson Xavier watched her panicked reaction and let out a light chuckle. "It's just me. What are you so jumpy for?"

"N-nothing," Sylvia stammered, putting a hand to her chest to calm her racing heart. "Gibson, why are you home? Didn't you have to go to the clinic today?"

The Xavier family had been aggressively restructuring their business. Gibson had already stepped back from his psychiatric practice to fully take over the family's core assets, including their private hospital chain and pharmaceutical companies.

"Just came back to grab some files."

"I'll go back to my room then."
