Killian opened it and stared at it for a long moment.

Sylvia had been waiting for his reaction. Seeing his prolonged silence, she exchanged an anxious look with her friends.

"What's wrong?" she asked softly.

Killian shoved the papers back into the envelope and handed it to Nate.

"Nothing."

Seeing his nonchalant reaction, Nate exhaled in relief, assuming it wasn't anything too serious.

Killian waved a hand, signaling for Nate to leave.

Then, he looked up and asked, "Is there anything else on the agenda?"

The friends froze, trading bewildered glances.

Finally, one of them stepped forward, offering a gentle reminder. "Killian, Sylvia is proposing to you."

Killian turned his attention back to Sylvia. Her nerves were already showing, her eyes wide with desperate expectation.

"Marriage isn't something I'm considering right now," he stated flatly.

The atmosphere in the room instantly plummeted.

Sylvia's eyes flushed red as she bit down hard on her lower lip.

"Then when will you consider it?" she asked, her voice trembling uncontrollably.

"This kind of thing isn't in my plans. I can't give you an exact timeline. It's entirely possible I'll remain unmarried for the rest of my life."

Sylvia drew a sharp breath, feeling a surge of outrage threatening to boil over.

Afraid a massive argument was about to erupt, a few friends quickly stepped in to smooth things over.

"Killian, are you worried about Connor? Honestly, he's old enough now. He should be able to accept something like this."

"Yeah! Connor loves Sylvia. If he heard you two were getting married, he'd be thrilled..."

Killian snapped his head toward the speaker, his gaze lethal. "Are you suddenly a mind reader for my son?"

The friend immediately shut his mouth, terrified.

The others were too afraid to utter another word.

Sylvia closed her eyes as two streams of tears traced down her cheeks.
