All she could think was that she hadn't hit them hard enough.
"It was nothing. If you ever run into trouble again, just tell me," Killian replied flatly, blatantly broadcasting his unconditional indulgence and protection.
Sylvia nodded with a sweet smile.
Standing nearby, Leon couldn't hold back his disgust, letting out a cold, muttered scoff. "Shameless."
Sylvia paused, instinctively glancing up at Killian.
He, however, acted as if he hadn't heard a thing, his pace unbroken. With no other choice, she bit the bullet and hurried to keep up.
A few minutes later, when the couple finally passed by the terrace again, Jillian and Leon were already gone.
Back inside the private room, the two returned to their seats.
"Where did you guys run off to? What took you so long?" Mallory demanded.
Daniel watched them closely, his eyes sharp and guarded, silently calculating the shift in their demeanor.
Leon bypassed the interrogation entirely. "We just ran into Killian and Sylvia out in the hall."
"What the hell?!" Mallory shot out of her chair. "You saw them? Did you start a fight? Why didn't you tag me in?!"
Jillian quickly reached out and pulled her back down. "Calm down. We aren't sworn enemies in a blood feud. Just because we see each other doesn't mean we have to brawl."
Seeing how remarkably unfazed Jillian looked, Mallory finally relaxed, satisfied that her friend hadn't been bullied.
"It's seriously bad luck. We can't go anywhere without running into that garbage duo! I heard a rumor they were breaking up. Breaking up, my ass! They need to lock themselves together forever so they can't ruin anyone else's lives! By the way, you guys have been divorced for a while, right? Why isn't the paperwork finalized yet?"
"He's refusing to sign the papers," she said calmly.
"He refuses to divorce you, but he's still parading his little mistress all over town? The double standards are insane!" Mallory ranted furiously.
"Keep your voice down," Daniel warned softly. "They're literally in the next room."
"So what? You think I'm scared of him hearing me? If he has the guts to walk in here, I'll scream it right to his face!"
