Jillian had zero energy left to argue with him. Pressing her hands against the table, she pushed herself up from the booth.
"What are you doing?" Sean demanded.
"Paying the bill."
"As the older generation, I can't possibly let you pay for this. Besides, I am not finished speaking."
"I already told you, if you have a problem, take it up with your son. And for the record, I didn't make a single demand. No settlement, no alimony, no compensation for my wasted years. I didn't ask for a single dime. I didn't even fight for custody of Connor. I handed him straight over to Killian."
Sean stared at her in utter shock.
Because Killian refused to let him interfere, he had privately assumed Jillian was making astronomical financial demands or fighting viciously for custody, and that was why the divorce had stalled. He never imagined she had walked away with absolutely nothing.
"If that's the case, why won't Killian agree to the divorce?"
Jillian pushed her way out of the coffee shop, with Sean still trailing behind her, demanding answers.
Her patience had officially run dry. She stopped, pointed a finger sharply over Sean's shoulder, and snapped, "Get the hell out."
Sean froze, convinced he had misheard her. "What did you just say?"
"I said, get the hell out."
He stared at her, utterly appalled. He had always believed that, as her father-in-law, even a classless woman like her would maintain a shred of reverence for him. The thought that she would blatantly tell him to get out was inconceivable.
"Let me tell you something. Even Killian wouldn't dare speak to me with such disrespect..."
"That's because you're his father. To me, you're just a repulsive, bitter old man."
