Jillian suddenly understood exactly why his management team strictly curated his public image to be cold and silent. The moment he opened his mouth and actually started talking, his sheer lack of life experience was painfully obvious.

The realization actually made her smile.

She and Bash were on completely different mental wavelengths, but she had to admit, interacting with someone so simple-minded was mildly entertaining.

Bash sat quietly across from her, just watching her.

Jillian was dressed in a pristine white business suit. Her entire aura was sharp, professional, and commanding, and even her makeup was elegantly understated.

Before this, Bash had never imagined himself falling for a woman like her. Like most guys in their early twenties, he was impulsive, playful, and usually gravitated toward girls who were cute and affectionate.

But right now, his heart was hammering relentlessly in his chest. He suddenly felt like every girl he had ever dated combined couldn't hold a candle to Jillian's cool, effortless smile.

"Listen to me," Jillian explained carefully, speaking slowly as if she were afraid he wouldn't grasp the concept. "Worrying about what my kids will call you is missing the point entirely. When I say we aren't compatible, I mean our age, our life experiences, and our goals are worlds apart. When I say we aren't compatible, I mean..." She took a breath. "I'm married."

"Didn't you say you were single?"

"My situation is complicated, and it's not something I can easily explain in a few words, so I just used the word 'single' to summarize it. I'm currently going through a divorce. We already went to court once, but the judge didn't grant the separation the first time around."

Bash let out a massive sigh of relief. "You scared me to death! I thought I was about to become the other man. If you and your husband are already getting a divorce, then me pursuing you doesn't count as wrecking a home, right?"

He stared at her with those dark, earnest eyes, asking the question with total sincerity.

Jillian opened her mouth, then closed it, genuinely at a loss for words.
