Bash wasn't stupid. He could clearly see how aggressively Killian was manhandling her.
"Hold on a second." Bash stepped forward, blocking their path.
"Is there a problem?" Killian demanded, his voice dropping to a dangerous octave.
"Mr. Quincy, Jillian is in so much pain she can barely stand. The least you could do is show a little basic decency. Or better yet, just hand her over to me." Bash reached out and grabbed Jillian's free wrist.
Instantly, Jillian felt the pressure on her other arm magnify tenfold. Killian's grip turned into a suffocating, possessive vice.
"I told you, you are no longer needed here. Unless you want the paparazzi catching another scandal, I suggest you disappear. Now."
Bash naturally felt an instinctual sense of intimidation when dealing with Killian. It was a pressure born from the gap in their age, their social standing, and their sheer life experience.
But he wasn't deaf; he could clearly hear the territorial hostility lacing Killian's words.
He was young, arrogant, and standing in front of the woman he was trying to pursue. There was absolutely no way he was backing down.
He lifted his chin defiantly, looking like a young, untested wolf foolishly challenging the alpha of the pack.
"I'm sorry, but Jillian is my girlfriend. There is no way I'm handing her over to some other man."
Jillian closed her eyes in sheer despair. "No, I'm not," she immediately blurted out to Killian.
She knew exactly what Bash was trying to do. He saw Killian treating her roughly and wanted to protect her, assuming that claiming to be her boyfriend would force Killian to back off.
But Bash had absolutely no idea about the twisted reality of her relationship with Killian, nor did he understand how ruthless the man truly was.
If Killian believed she had taken a lover before their divorce was even finalized, his retaliation would be catastrophic.
"Oh? You're not?" Killian mocked softly.
Jillian's head was pounding so hard she felt nauseous. "I'm absolutely not. He's just saying that."
