The group had planned a casual lunch. As they passed through the lobby, Sean stood up. "I'm Killian's father. There's something I need to ask you all."

The friends exchanged uneasy glances, but given who he was, they had to show respect. They politely invited him into their private VIP room.

After about an hour of closed-door conversation, Sean finally stood up. "Thank you. I have a much better understanding of my son's situation now."

The friends were quick to defer. "Not at all, Mr. Quincy. If you ever need to know anything else, just ask."

Sean nodded and left the club.

Settling into the back of his car, he let out a long sigh and ordered his driver to take him to Quincy Group.

Killian barely reacted to his father's arrival. "Couldn't this have been a phone call? My days are packed," he said dismissively, idly flipping through a document without looking up.

"I met with some of your friends before coming here."

Killian froze, slowly lifting his gaze. "You're investigating me?"

"No, you've got it wrong. I just wanted to understand you better," Sean rushed to explain.

A sneer tugged at the corner of Killian's mouth. When he had actually needed his father's attention, the man was nowhere to be found. Now that he didn't need him, he was suddenly trying to play the devoted parent.

"Killian, you had a crush on Sylvia Xavier back in college, didn't you?"

His pen stalled on the paper. "What?"

"Why didn't you ever say anything? If you had someone you loved, you should have been with her. I finally understand why you despise Jillian so much. Was it because she prevented you from being with the woman you truly cared about? I understand that kind of pain. I really do," Sean said empathetically.

Killian withdrew his icy gaze, his tone indifferent. "What does that have to do with you?"

Sean sighed, looking at his son with a mixture of paternal affection and deep guilt.

Perhaps it was age catching up to him, but he genuinely wanted to do something for his son to ensure his life was free of regrets.
