She picked up her phone, and the moment she saw the caller ID, her brows knit together.

Across from her, Killian instantly stopped what he was doing. His dark, predatory gaze fixed entirely on her.

Oblivious to his stare, Jillian let the phone ring, hesitating to answer.

Just as the call was about to go to voicemail, she stood up, retreating to a quiet corner by the window. She pressed answer and lowered her voice to a harsh whisper. "Hello?"

It was Bash.

"Jillian, are you okay? Is Killian giving you a hard time? Is he hurting you?"

Jillian gripped her phone tighter, moving even further away, her voice dropping to a barely audible murmur. "I'm fine. Everything is fine."

"Thank God! I've been worried sick about you since that night, but my manager confiscated my phone so I couldn't reach out! By the way, did you see a doctor about your headaches?"

"I've got an appointment booked with a specialist. I'll go in for a consultation soon to figure out a plan."

"That's a relief! Let me come with you to the appointment, okay?"

"No," Jillian rejected him instantly.

Bash sounded incredibly dejected. "Fine. My agency won't let me leave the house right now anyway. But promise you'll send me the results as soon as you get them."

"There's no need. The doctor will handle the diagnosis."

"Jillian, why are you always so cold to me?"

"Is there anything else? If not, I'm hanging up." She had zero desire to continue the conversation.

She was terrified that if they spoke for too long, Killian would catch on and start a fight over absolutely nothing.

"Just take your time off and rest. Don't ignore those headaches. You have to take care of yourself."

"I know. I've already taken leave. I have someone looking after me, so you don't need to worry."
