Bash brazenly lingered in the room, refusing to leave. No matter how much Jillian urged him to go, he remained completely immovable.

Daniel, Leon, and Mallory all had incredibly demanding jobs. The fact that they had managed to carve out time to see her was already a miracle, meaning they couldn't stay forever.

Her friends eventually began to say their goodbyes. As they prepared to leave, Bash casually stayed put, projecting an air of supreme relaxation as if he were the master of the house.

"Leaving so soon? Sorry we couldn't be better hosts. Come by again whenever you have time!"

Bash gave them an overly enthusiastic send-off, escorting Daniel and Leon all the way to the hospital room door.

Daniel's expression was freezing. He reached out and slammed the door with a loud thud, completely shutting Bash out.

Bash had the door slammed right in his face, yet he didn't seem the least bit bothered, turning around with a playful grin.

The flippant, devil-may-care attitude he'd paraded around earlier completely melted away, replaced by an expression of pure, unadulterated concern.

"Jill, you look awful. You must have been through absolute hell these past few days."

As he spoke, he unconsciously raised his hand, reaching out to graze Jillian's cheek.

Jillian immediately swatted his hand away, a flash of annoyance in her eyes. "Who gave you permission to call me that?"

"I just heard Judith calling you that," Bash pouted defensively.

"That's my mother. What exactly is our relationship? Who are you to call me that?"

"We're boyfriend and girlfriend." Bash flashed a lazy smile.

Jillian grabbed a water glass from the table, threatening to hurl it at him. "Get the hell out of here! If the paparazzi catch you, I'll be in massive trouble."

Bash quickly threw his hands over his head, begging for mercy. "I was joking! We aren't yet, okay?"

Jillian felt an overwhelming wave of helplessness; she honestly had no idea what to do with him.

She had always been grounded and level-headed. Everyone in her social circle was mature, reliable, and played by the rules—Mallory being her only slightly eccentric friend.
