"Get out," Jillian demanded, deadpan.
A flash of hurt crossed Bash's eyes. "Whenever I'm free, I promise I'll do my best to come see you."
Once he was finally gone, Jillian let out a massive sigh of relief. Dealing with an aggressively eager, straightforward guy like Bash truly left her feeling defenseless.
As night fell, Killian arrived at the hospital with Connor.
He let the boy sit with Jillian for a short while before instructing Caleb to take Connor downstairs and wait in the car.
"If your check-up tomorrow morning looks good, we can process your discharge," Killian said evenly.
Jillian nodded. "Thank you for that. I'll head straight to my own place after I'm released tomorrow, so I won't have to trouble you anymore."
Killian took a seat in the single armchair across from her. Steepling his fingers together, he fixed a dark, unreadable stare on her without saying a single word.
A suffocating silence blanketed the room.
The quieter he remained, the more Jillian's anxiety spiked.
After an agonizingly long time, Killian finally broke the silence. "You still have quite a lot of belongings at The Yale Residences."
"Just have Mrs. Lewis pack them up and mail them to me. As for the clothes, you bought all of those, so do whatever you want with them. You can toss them out for all I care," Jillian answered indensively.
Killian's deep, frosty eyes locked onto hers, plunging the room right back into total silence.
Time dragged on, second by torturous second.
Finally, with absolute authority that left no room for debate, he delivered what sounded like an official command: "You're checking out tomorrow and returning to The Yale Residences."
Jillian snapped her head up. "Why?"
"There is no 'why.' You just have to."
"I'm not going back." Jillian's stance was unshakable. "I'm going back to my own home. The Yale Residences isn't my home."
"Is that so?" Killian rose slowly, advancing toward her step by step.
His towering, broad-shouldered frame loomed over her, completely swallowing her in his shadow.
