Jillian worked late at the office, pushing past nine o'clock before she finally cleared out the last of her pending tasks.

She asked her assistant to bring in a few vases. The assistant had planned to trim the flowers and arrange them herself, but Jillian waved her off, telling her to head home for the night.

The massive office was now completely empty, leaving her all alone.

She sat on the sofa, grabbed a pair of scissors, and took apart the massive bouquet of roses. Methodically, she trimmed them stem by stem, carefully dividing them among the vases.

After snipping the final stem, she couldn't resist leaning in. The rich, velvety scent of the roses filled her senses.

She gently brushed her fingertips against the delicate, soft petals. The truth was, she had always loved flowers, and there was a time she desperately hoped someone would buy them for her.

When she was younger, she had been so naive, entirely swept up in the romance of it all. In her mind, Prince Charming always wore Killian's face.

But now her eyes were open. The man she had once loved so deeply was nothing more than a bastard.

After arranging the vases perfectly around the room, Jillian packed her bag and left the building.

Two days later, Killian called her.

"Come to Quincy Group at noon."

"Is this about work?"

"Yes. The new Southside factory project. I want you here to give the report in person."

"Got it," Jillian replied, though she stayed quiet for a moment, her mind racing. The Southside factory had cleared all its audits ages ago, and she had already delegated the reporting to one of her senior executives. There was absolutely no reason for her to make the trip herself.

"I handed this over to Mr. Cross. Can't you just sync up with him?"

"There are a few discrepancies at the factory I can't wrap my head around. I need you to explain them to my face."

Jillian took a deep breath, knowing full well that Killian was just making up excuses to summon her.

"I'd appreciate it if you could separate your personal feelings from our work, Mr. Quincy, and stop sabotaging our efficiency. Dragging out this timeline doesn't do you any favors either."

"It is not your place to teach me how to run my company." With that, Killian hung up the phone.
