The day of the art festival finally arrived.
Jillian took the day off work, dressed in a beautiful outfit, applied some light makeup, and headed to the school.
The event was massive, with the campus decorated beautifully from corner to corner. Jillian made her way to the gallery first.
The halls were lined with artwork from various grades and classes, most of it radiating innocent, childlike joy.
Scanning the walls, Jillian quickly located her son's masterpiece.
But the moment her eyes landed on it, her soft smile shattered, freezing over like a river turning to solid ice.
Connor's drawing was simple. It depicted a man and a woman walking along the beach with a little boy.
The man was tall and handsome, wearing a sharp gray trench coat that made him look like a movie star. It was unmistakably Killian.
The little boy standing in the center was Connor, dressed in a white shirt and shorts, barefoot and flashing a bright, adorable smile.
But the woman standing beside him was tall, incredibly slender, and had long, wavy brown hair. Her dress billowed in the wind, giving her a glamorous, striking appearance.
The gentle breeze seemed to caress her glowing face, casting a beautiful, soft light across her delicate profile.
Though drawn with the clumsy strokes of a four-year-old, the sheer amount of love poured into the details made the artwork undeniably moving.
Jillian stared at the woman on the canvas, falling into a dead, suffocating silence.
She hated how perceptive she was, recognizing instantly that the woman in the drawing was Sylvia.
"Is that their family of three?"
"I think that's Connor's piece."
"Oh my goodness, to draw that beautifully at such a young age... he's incredibly gifted."
"Just look at how gorgeous that family is. A handsome dad, a stunning mom, and such a cute little boy. They must be so happy."
The voices of other gossiping parents drifted over to her.
For Jillian, every word felt like a cruel joke.
She was Connor's mother, yet she was completely absent from his vision of a perfect family.
Her face pale, Jillian gave a tight, barely perceptible nod.
"Connor's drawing is absolutely brilliant. Even the art instructor said he's a prodigy."
As she spoke, the teacher finally looked closely at the artwork.
An awkward tension immediately washed over her face, realizing the woman in the drawing looked absolutely nothing like Jillian.
The drawn figure was much thinner and taller. Her features might not have been as conventionally beautiful as Jillian's, but she radiated a confident, dazzling aura that Jillian completely lacked.
Realizing her blunder, the teacher quickly backpedaled. "Well, you know how young kids are... their drawings can be a bit abstract and inaccurate sometimes."
Jillian forced a polite smile, though it felt like a thousand needles were piercing her heart.
Other kids might draw inaccurately, but not Connor. This piece was an exact reflection of his inner world.
"I'm just going to look around a bit more. Please, don't let me keep you," Jillian told her softly.
Looking as though she had just been spared an execution, the teacher quickly excused herself.
