It was past midnight by the time they left the club.

Bash, still wearing his face mask, walked downstairs alongside Jillian.

The moment they stepped out of the lobby and pushed the doors open, a freezing gust of wind hit them.

Jillian instinctively shrank into her collar.

"Cold?" Bash asked.

"I'm fine."

As if to test her claim, Bash reached out to grab her hand.

Jillian's fingers were freezing, and not wanting to be exposed, she quickly pulled her hand away.

"Let me warm them up for you."

"No need."

"Then wear my jacket?"

"I'm good!"

Jillian tried to brush him off, but Bash caught her hand anyway. "You're freezing. Don't tell me you're not cold."

He took her wrist with a gentle dominance, using his other hand to pull off his jacket and drape it over her shoulders.

The residual warmth of his body seeped into her, chasing away the bitter chill.

Jillian felt herself slowly warming up, her heart giving a subtle flutter.

"You should head back. The temperature is dropping too fast."

Bash sniffled and shook his head. "It's rare enough that I get to hang out with you. Even just taking a walk is worth it."

He suddenly laced his fingers through hers. Jillian's first instinct was to pull away, but feeling the chill on his own skin, she hesitated and let him hold her hand.

The two strolled across the plaza, the streetlights stretching their shadows long against the pavement.

The streets were mostly deserted, save for the occasional car driving past.

"Jillian, divorce your husband. Be with me."

Jillian stayed silent.

Bash simply smiled. "It's fine. I'll ask again later."

By the time they reached the next intersection, Jillian finally pulled her hand free and insisted Bash take a cab home.

She watched him get into the car and tried to hand the jacket back, but he adamantly refused to take it.

Defeated, she gave up and began walking back the way she came alone.

Just then, a black Sovereign Sedan rolled smoothly alongside the curb and pulled to a stop right beside her.

The window rolled down, revealing Killian's ice-cold expression.

Jillian narrowed her eyes, thinking she was seeing things.

She had assumed he'd be spending the night with Sylvia.

"Get in," Killian ordered coldly.

Jillian glanced around the empty street.

"Why so on edge? Afraid I'm going to hurt you?" Killian turned to her, his face dripping with mockery.

"Hardly. You wouldn't risk breaking the law over me, Mr. Quincy. I'm just not worth it."

Jillian offered a tight smile.
