Only Killian and his father, Sean, were left in the living room.
Sean seized the opportunity to speak. "Now that you and Jillian are completely done, your marriage to Sylvia can be put on the agenda. It's better to settle down early and give Connor a little brother or sister."
"You're mistaken." Killian suddenly looked up, cutting him off with a detached tone.
Sean froze, looking bewildered. "What?"
"You had someone investigate me before and assumed the person I liked was Sylvia. It wasn't."
Sean looked utterly shocked, finding the notion absurd. "It wasn't her? Then who is it?"
Killian didn't answer. The emotions in his dark eyes were indecipherable, and a faint, mocking smile tugged at the corner of his mouth as he quietly observed his father.
"If it's not her, it's someone else," Sean conceded, carrying a hint of a conciliatory attitude. "From now on, I will absolutely not interfere with your private life. You just be with whoever you like."
Killian let out a cold scoff and stood up.
He didn't stay the night at the manor. Connor was staying there, and not long after finishing his conversation with Sean, Killian received a call from a buddy and left.
The night was loud, the bar filled with flashing lights and a roaring crowd.
By the time Killian arrived, his friends had already started drinking, and Sylvia was there too.
She had changed out of her demure daytime dress into a burgundy, form-fitting mini dress and stiletto heels, which accentuated her slender, stunning curves. She looked absolutely radiant and bold.
Seeing Killian arrive, the group of friends immediately cheered with a laugh, "Happy divorce, Killian!"
"Congrats on being single again and shaking off that schemer!"
Killian's lips twitched, but he didn't respond. He simply poured himself a drink.
In the center of the dance floor, Sylvia swayed lightly to the music, her graceful movements displaying a visible, sunny mood.
"Sylvia is in such a great mood today."
"Well, consider what happened today. Who wouldn't be thrilled?"
His friends bantered and teased each other, the conversation lively.
Killian sat in silence the whole time, as if the surrounding excitement had nothing to do with him.
After finishing one drink, he poured himself another.
Seeing him like this, the crowd gathered the courage to joke around.
"Killian looks like he's in a great mood too."
"Of course! You know the three greatest joys for a middle-aged man: getting promoted, striking it rich, and losing a wife. Killian's divorce is no different from losing a wife!"
The entire booth erupted in laughter.
The chaotic lights swept across Killian's face in waves. Despite sitting in the center of the roaring party, he looked like an isolated iceberg, coldly aloof and out of place. His deep eyes were sunk in the shifting shadows, dark and unfathomable, hiding emotions no one could read.
"Killian, want to go dance?" someone stepped forward to ask.
