A few minutes later, Killian's temper settled slightly.
Zach carefully brought over a cup of coffee. "Killian, is the kid okay?"
"He's fine," Killian replied, his face dark.
"Kids get sick all the time. He just needs some rest, don't make yourself mad over it."
Killian's eyes were heavy, his voice low. "Just now, for the first time, she brought up custody."
Zach's anger flared instantly, filled with righteous indignation. "Killian, she's doing this on purpose! She left the kid in the country for five years without a single word of concern, and now she suddenly brings up custody? She's just using this as an excuse to mess with you and delay the divorce!"
Killian stared out at the endless stream of traffic outside the window, his gaze dark and complex, saying nothing.
Meanwhile, having dealt with the immediate crisis, Jillian found some time to look at an apartment in Hartford.
With her new company setting up in Hartford, she would be staying here long-term, and she couldn't live in a hotel forever.
She eventually settled on a high-end complex near the tech park.
The apartment was roughly a thousand square feet, fully furnished, with excellent amenities and a great environment. It was incredibly convenient, allowing her to move in with just her luggage.
Jillian paid the deposit on the spot, planning to rent it long-term.
She and her assistant did a quick sweep of the place, planning to head out that evening to familiarize themselves with the neighborhood.
Just as she got settled, Bash called.
Jillian chuckled helplessly. "Your schedule is so packed, you don't need to go out of your way to fly back and forth."
"I have to," Bash said, his tone light but slightly whiny. "If I don't keep an eye on things, what if my girlfriend runs away?"
Jillian felt a flutter in her chest and couldn't help but smile.
Even now, she still felt that being with Bash was like an unreal dream.
She had never imagined she'd end up dating a younger man. But since things had come to this, she could only let nature take its course.
Bash had a great personality. The only drawback was that they ran in completely different circles, meaning they truly had no common ground.
Yet he was incredibly clingy, his eyes constantly locked solely on her.
Hearing her gentle tone, the assistant nearby tentatively whispered, "Ms. Jarrett, is that your boyfriend?"
Jillian didn't deny it.
The assistant, reading the room perfectly, immediately said, "I'll head back to the hotel then, I won't bother you."
Not long after the assistant left, Bash drove up to the apartment building.
He was currently at the peak of his career. Walking around with that gorgeous face of his made him incredibly easy to recognize.
To avoid trouble, he didn't step outside after arriving. They ordered takeout for dinner, and he stayed quietly in the apartment to keep Jillian company.
His schedule was tight, and he had to fly back the following evening. Afraid that fans might be staking out the airport, he didn't let Jillian see him off and planned to catch a cab directly from the underground garage to the airport.
