Sylvia let out a discreet sigh of relief when she saw the exchange.
It seemed Killian had absolutely no intention of letting the world know about his relationship with Jillian. She quickly stepped up. "Let me watch Connor. You have interviews soon; you won't be able to keep an eye on him."
Killian nodded and looked at Connor. "Go find your grandmother."
Sylvia took Connor's hand and led him over to Sienna.
Sienna’s eyes immediately locked onto the antique emerald bracelet on Sylvia's wrist.
Catching the stare, Sylvia proactively offered a sweet explanation. "Sienna, Killian gave this to me. I heard it’s the heirloom reserved for the daughter-in-law of the Quincy family."
Sienna’s expression was unreadable, her voice frosty. "I clearly remember giving that piece to Jillian."
Sylvia waved it off, playing the innocent victim. "She didn't want it, so she sent it back to the company. Killian said it looked perfect on me, so he gave it to me instead. I haven't had a chance to tell you yet. You aren't upset, are you?"
Sienna lowered her eyes, burying her true feelings. She wasn't about to start screaming in the middle of a high-society gala.
She offered a single, icy sentence: "If you like it, keep it."
Sylvia relaxed completely, her face practically glowing with victory.
Though she did notice that Sienna was acting unusually cold toward her tonight.
She pressed on, trying to play the perfect host. "Let me show you and Connor around! This is my alma mater, I know every inch of it. Back when I was a student, I hosted every single major event."
She hovered aggressively, desperate to show off her proximity to the Quincys.
The alumni watching them whispered furiously.
"Looks like Sylvia locking down Mr. Quincy is a done deal."
"Seriously. His mother and his son adore her. She's basically family already."
"Who exactly is the mother of that kid? He looks incredibly familiar."
"I heard it was some girl from our graduating class who drugged Mr. Quincy to trap him."
"Sylvia is so damn lucky. Born rich, and now she gets to marry into the Quincy empire. She never has to lift a finger again."
Having rested enough, Jillian stood up and smoothed her ruined dress, preparing to leave her corner.
The second she moved, a towering figure stepped directly into her path.
Killian stood there, entirely ignoring her presence, so close he practically bumped into her.
Jillian stopped abruptly, her brow furrowing with irritation. "The room is massive. Are you blind?"
She highly suspected he did it on purpose.
Killian finally looked down at her, his voice dripping with venom. "Do you even realize where you are? Watch your behavior. I won't have you embarrassing Connor."
"I don't think you need to worry. We haven't exactly publicized our relationship, so my actions won't reflect on him."
"You're taking this rather well. So, ignoring Connor the entire night while he stared at you—am I supposed to praise you for being considerate?"
