The host asked another question. "Who were your closest friends during your college years?"
Jillian Jarrett answered candidly, "My best guy friend was Daniel Langley. Among the girls, I was closest to Mallory Vaughn, though she couldn't make it today."
With that brief Q&A, the interview wrapped up.
Just as it ended, Sylvia Xavier returned with Sienna Sterling and Connor Quincy.
The moment she walked in, she saw Killian Quincy and Jillian standing shoulder-to-shoulder before the cameras. They looked stunning together, an undeniably striking pair.
The whispers from the surrounding alumni grated on her ears.
"They look amazing. They were always the ultimate campus couple in my mind."
"Daniel Langley was definitely hot enough to be top tier, too, but he just has a different vibe from Killian."
Sylvia's smile froze completely. A wave of bitter jealousy washed over her.
She had been so busy sucking up to Sienna and the kid that she'd given Jillian the perfect opportunity to steal the spotlight.
Forcing down her anger, she turned to Sienna. "Sienna, why don't you have a seat and rest for a bit?"
Without waiting for an answer, she hurried over to Killian.
Jillian had already taken the initiative to step away, turning to leave.
Sylvia sidled up to Killian, her voice taking on a soft, self-congratulatory tone. "I just took Sienna and Connor for a walk around the venue. They were getting tired, so I made sure they sat down to rest."
Killian gave a faint nod, his expression unreadable.
As time ticked by, the banquet drew to a close, and many of the guests and university officials began to filter out.
Killian checked the time and looked down at Connor. "Are you tired?"
Connor nodded obediently. The boy had a strict routine and usually went to bed right at nine-thirty.
"Then we'll head out first." Killian gathered Sienna and his son, preparing to leave.
Sylvia naturally trailed right behind them.
Bodyguards flanked the doorway, all part of the Quincy family's private security detail.
Just as the group was about to step out of the banquet hall, a cold, clear voice rang out behind them.
"Sylvia Xavier!"
Jillian called out, stopping her in her tracks.
Sylvia stiffened, instinctively shrinking behind Killian.
Jillian took two steps forward, her gaze icy. "Come here. I have something to say to you."
Before Sylvia could dodge, Jillian closed the distance, grabbed a fistful of her hair, and yanked her forward, throwing her hard to the floor.
Sylvia shrieked. She had just pushed herself up, trying to scramble to her feet, when Jillian straddled her. Without a second of hesitation, Jillian delivered two sharp, resounding slaps across Sylvia's face.
The sheer force left Sylvia stunned. Once the shock wore off, she began thrashing wildly, rolling over with all her might to shove Jillian off.
A vicious scuffle broke out between them, resulting in a loud tear as Sylvia's designer gown ripped.
Jillian quickly scrambled back to her feet, her eyes burning with cold fury.
Sylvia's cheeks were burning, her dress ruined. Furious and stinging with pain, she raised her hand to strike back.
But Sienna rushed forward, grabbing Sylvia's wrist and yanking her back hard. "Why are you resorting to violence?!" Sienna snapped.
Sylvia froze, completely bewildered and brimming with grievance.
