As soon as they returned to Metro City, Mallory Vaughn invited Jillian to dinner. Jillian didn't decline. Daniel Langley and Leon Quincy were there as well.

Mallory had a few drinks at the table. When the meal ended, Daniel and Leon left first, leaving Jillian to safely escort Mallory home.

The two women walked down the winding hotel corridor. Mallory stumbled, leaning her entire weight against Jillian.

"What have you been so busy with lately? I haven't seen you in weeks," Mallory mumbled.

"I told you already. I've been in Hartford these past few weeks."

Mallory, slightly tipsy, draped an arm around Jillian's shoulders in protest. "You're not avoiding me, are you?"

Jillian laughed. "Why on earth would I avoid you?"

"I told you before that Killian had a huge crush on you back in college, and you refused to believe it. Then you disappear for weeks. I suspect you're just having a hard time accepting reality," Mallory teased.

Jillian had entirely forgotten about that matter and had no intention of dwelling on it.

She gave a dismissive nod. "Alright, alright. I believe you."

"You really believe it?"

"I really do! Killian had a crush on me in college, happy now?"

Mallory pressed on. "Since you believe it, what are you going to do about it?"

"What can I do? It was so long ago, and we're already divorced."

"So what are you going to do when you see him next?"

"I'll pretend I don't know anything, obviously."

Mallory didn't quite know how to respond to that, so she seamlessly changed the subject. "What were you doing in Hartford? Oh, I know. You weren't actually secretly dating Bash over there to dodge the paparazzi, were you? Just like his fans claimed."

"No. I've been renovating a house there."

Mallory's voice instantly pitched up. "Renovating a house? Are you planning to settle down there? With Bash?"
