Once the final button was undone, Jillian slid the shirt slowly off her shoulders.
She turned around, exposing her back to Killian, and pushed her trousers down to the floor.
She was now standing there in nothing but her lingerie.
The massive mirror perfectly reflected her stunning curves and luminous skin. Her legs were incredibly long and flawlessly straight. Under the harsh, freezing glow of the overhead lights, she seemed enveloped in a faint, mesmerizing halo.
A sudden memory crashed into Jillian's mind. Back before the marriage deteriorated, she and Killian had actually shared a physical relationship.
Even during their most intimate moments, he had been exactly like this—never initiating, never showing a single trace of tenderness or affection.
She would strip herself down, and when he found his release, she would be left alone to clean up the cold aftermath.
"As you can clearly see, I'm hiding absolutely nothing," Jillian stated.
Jillian's voice was frighteningly calm.
She methodically picked up her clothes and dressed herself piece by piece.
When she finally pushed the door open and stepped out, Sylvia looked ready to incinerate her alive with pure hatred.
Sylvia aggressively pointed at the scattered pile of clothes on the counter. "Grab your trash and get the hell out."
Jillian walked calmly over to the display counter and carefully repacked her bags.
Sylvia marched over to Killian, instantly wrapping her arms possessively around him.
"Let's go," she whispered urgently.
"Hold on a second," Jillian suddenly interrupted, having finished packing her bags.
"What the hell do you want now?" Sylvia scowled.
"He just finished a thorough search, and I didn't have a single stolen item on my body."
"And your point is?" Sylvia arched a haughty eyebrow.
"My point is, shouldn't you be issuing your apology right about now?"
Sylvia completely froze.
"Why the hell would I apologize to you? I never agreed to any of that."
"But I stated the terms clearly! You publicly accused me of theft. Now that I've proven my absolute innocence, your refusal to apologize turns this into malicious defamation. I have every legal right to call the cops."
Jillian gripped her phone tightly, radiating an aura of unbreakable defiance.
Sylvia let out a furious laugh. She tilted her head up toward Killian, clearly waiting for him to shut Jillian down.
Killian's voice sliced through the tension like absolute ice.
Jillian's thumb immediately froze over the dial button.
"Come back tomorrow. Connor wants to see you."
Without waiting for a single word of response, he hooked his arm around Sylvia and ruthlessly turned his back on her, walking away.
Seeing that the drama had officially ended, the crowd quickly dispersed.
Jillian was left standing entirely alone in the dead center of the boutique.
A suffocating tidal wave of regret and shame crashed over her.
She genuinely couldn't understand why, when she was alone with Sylvia, she had the fearlessness to shred her apart and fight back.
But the absolute second Killian opened his mouth, it was as if he violently drained every last drop of courage from her veins.
She was instantly reduced back to that pathetic, spineless version of herself—the woman who cared entirely too much about what he thought of her.
However, she had definitely made some progress today. At the very least, she had forced Killian into a corner where he had to use Connor as an excuse to shut her down.
Because if he hadn't, she absolutely would have dragged Sylvia through the mud.
