"The young master from the Quincy family is having an art lesson with Mr. Xavier. I brought up some refreshments."

"Oh."

Since it was Connor Quincy, Gibson decided to drop in and see how things were going.

Just as he raised his hand to knock, the study door swung open from the inside.

Silas was walking Connor out.

"Make sure you practice what we covered today when you get home."

"I will, Professor Xavier."

Noticing Gibson, Silas offered a polite smile.

Connor greeted him politely. "Hello, Gibson."

Gibson reached out and ruffled Connor's hair. "You didn't even tell me you were coming over for a lesson."

"Dad said I'm here to study art, so I shouldn't bother anyone unnecessarily."

Gibson gave an approving smile.

Regardless of how insufferable Killian's wife was, this kid was incredibly well-behaved. He must have inherited most of his traits from Killian.

"Who brought you here?" Gibson asked casually.

"My mom."

His mom? Gibson frowned.

He had never actually met Killian's wife. Everything he knew about her had been pieced together from rumors spread by their mutual friends.

He escorted Connor downstairs and opened the front doors.

Jillian took Connor's hand as he stepped outside.

"Mom!" Connor called out happily.

Jillian gave a slight nod.

"Thank you, Mr. Xavier."

A look of sheer horror washed over Gibson's face. "You..."

"That's right. I'm Con's mother."

Jillian looked up and flashed him an empty, indifferent smile.

Unfortunately for him, she had heard both his phone call and the voice memos.

She hadn't been intentionally eavesdropping. Gibson had simply been standing too close.

Therefore, his call had to be about the disastrous encounter that afternoon.

There was no reason to entertain that conversation, so she decisively hit the reject button.

A few days later, Jillian returned from work and unlocked the front door, only to walk into a full-blown screaming match between her mother and Mrs. Zeller.

She rushed forward, noticing a plate of Beef Bourguignon spilled across the floor.

Judith was flushed red, her eyes brimming with unshed tears.

"What is going on here?" Jillian demanded.

Mrs. Zeller stood there with her arms crossed, oozing arrogance. "The young master is small and has a fragile immune system. Mr. Quincy expressly forbade him from eating outside food."

The pieces clicked together instantly for Jillian.

Her mother hadn't seen her grandson in a while and was missing him, so she had cooked a few of his favorite dishes and brought them over.

Mrs. Zeller had obviously refused to let Connor eat them, and in the ensuing struggle, the plate had been knocked to the floor.

Back when Judith used to live at the estate, she had clashed with Mrs. Zeller constantly.

Sienna didn't live at the residence and, viewing herself as vastly superior, rarely bothered to interact with Judith.

That left Mrs. Zeller to enthusiastically adopt the role of the domineering mother-in-law. Armed with Killian's blind respect for her, she fully believed she had every right to act as the ultimate authority figure over Jillian.
